Summary: Sakurai Sho is a college graduate with dreams of going into space expansion. He meets Aiba Masaki during his years of college and they quickly form a loving relationship. When Sho applies for a job, they give him one more day on Earth before he's sent out to space where he'll be there for a year. They believe they will get by with e-mailing each other, but the further out into space Sho goes, the longer it takes Aiba to get his messages. Time passes faster on Earth and you don't age in space.
The year is 2050. Technology has evolved in several years. So much so, that the Japanese government decided to expand into helping the other nations on Earth with space exploration for a new planet to live on.
Sakurai Sho was fresh out of college. An energetic and super smart 24 year old. One of Keio University’s smartest students. He had always wanted to join in the space race to find that new planet.
Each nation had created their own robots to explore further in space than shuttles had ever been able to. People could pilot them and survive for days, months, possibly even years in them while exploring space. He’d always wanted to pilot one.
During lunch, his phone buzzed in his pocket. An e-mail was sent to his phone. He smiled when he saw the name.
From: Aiba Masaki
Subject: Miss you~ <3
Entry: Hello, Sho-chan! How are your interviews going? I miss you and hope that we’ll be able to go to dinner tonight!
He immediately replied.
Subject: Tonight~
Entry: Interview went well…I think. Hopefully, I get the job. P(^^)P I should be home before 4 tonight. Do you know where you want to go? My treat!
He got an immediate reply as soon as he sent it. Did he know to wait a few minutes before sending a reply? Sho smiled at his enthusiasm.
From: Aiba Masaki
Subject: NO!!!
Entry: Sho-chan! I can’t have you treat me every time we go out! It’s my turn to treat you! So, you choose~
Aiba Masaki was his boyfriend…lover… Sho didn’t really know what to call him. They were together but neither of them wanted to come out and say they loved the other. They knew that there was love between them, so there was no need for words.
Aiba was a 23 year old that Sho met during his walks to school. It started as a simple friendship until Sho couldn’t help himself and kissed the younger man. From then on, they became closer and closer.
Calling during the day wasn’t the best for either of them. When they first met, Sho was always busy with classes or interviews and couldn’t answer. Aiba always had work at the café he was helping with. The best way for them to communicate was through e-mails.
He replied back.
Subject: Are you sure?
Entry: You want to treat me? Are you sure? We can split the bill.
Once again, he got almost an immediate reply. He hadn’t even set his phone down.
From: Aiba Masaki
Subject: Absolutely not!
Entry: Sho-chan, you’ve worked so hard to get those interviews! It’s my job to treat you tonight. I’m going to pay for it all. (^-^) Don’t worry about it. Now, where do you want to go?
Subject: Let’s go…
Entry: Yakiniku! I want yakiniku, then. I’ll meet you at the café before you get off of work. Do your best at the cafe, ne? <3
Sho finished up his lunch and continued on to his next interview.
When 4 p.m. rolled around, he was exhausted. He had to rush across town to the second interview. He sluggishly walked to the café where Aiba worked.
“Sho-chan!” Aiba exclaimed. “You look tired.”
“Hi, Maa-kun. The first interview was the opposite way of the second interview. I had to run across town to make it there in time.” Sho placed his briefcase on a table and sunk into a chair in the corner. He leaned back in the chair and let his head roll back.
“Let me make you something,” Aiba said, leaning across the counter.
There wasn’t anyone at the shop. He could take his time doing whatever he wanted.
“The usual, please,” he said, not bothering to lift his head.
Sho could hear all the rummaging and the steaming noises coming from behind the counter where Aiba was working. Sho got up and walked to the counter, where he leaned his chest across it, placing his head over folded arms and watched Aiba work. Once Aiba was done, he slid the cup filled with fresh coffee towards Sho. Sho sat up and kissed Aiba on the nose, thanked him, and took a seat on a bar stool.
“How much do I owe you?”
Aiba waved his hand. “No, nothing! That one’s on me.”
“Aiba, stop doing that. It makes me feel bad. Like my money isn’t good when I’m with you.”
“Has anyone ever told you, you worry too much? Take it easy once in a while. People can do favors for you every now and then. You don’t always have to put yourself out there.”
Sho relaxed in his chair. “Okay,” he pouted.
“So, yakiniku! You didn’t say that because of me, did you?”
Sho didn’t know how to answer. He always did something like that. It wasn’t for him but for Aiba. He made a face that showed that he did it for him.
“Sho! This is your dinner. You decide where you want to go.”
“That is where I want to go.”
They left the conversation at that. Arguing with each other got nowhere, as neither side wanted to give in. They both took a breather and relaxed. A few seconds later, Sho’s phone began to ring. He ran over to his suit jacket at the table and pulled it out. It was one of the companies he interviewed with.
“Sorry, Aiba. I have to take this! It’s one of the interviewers.”
Aiba excused him and Sho walked outside to answer. Aiba could see Sho answer enthusiastically, but Sho’s facial expressions seemed to grow more and more serious the longer he stayed on the phone. He hung up and walked back in.
“I got the job,” he said. His tone was indescribable. He seemed to not know whether to be happy or upset by that.
“That’s great! I knew you could! When do you start? Do you know?”
“I start tomorrow…”
“So soon?” Aiba’s voice seemed to break.
“I’m going into space tomorrow. I don’t know when I’ll be back, either. The man said I could be out there for years.”
Aiba wanted to say ‘Back down now! Forget the job!’ but he knew Sho needed the money. Hell, he needed money as well. This was also a dream of Aiba’s for him to go into space and he couldn’t say ‘Give up on your dream!’ to Sho. But was it worth going out into space, when you had everything on Earth and come back to nothing? You don’t age in space, so when he came back, Aiba could be an old man and he’d be his 24-year-old-self. There was no reward in getting that job. Aiba knew that in the back of his mind, but still supported him.
“That’s great!” Aiba said, holding back tears. “It’s a good thing we’re going out tonight! Now we have something else to celebrate.”
“Aiba, you don’t have to pretend to be happy. I don’t know how to react to this. All my life, I’ve been waiting for this moment. I finally get it and I’m afraid of it.”
“It might do you good. Besides, there’s new technology where we can communicate with each other! Hora!”
Aiba ran to the back really quick and came back with two phones- one green, the other red. He offered the red one to Sho, which he took, reluctantly.
“I got these so that when you got the job and went up in space, we’d be able to communicate with each other. Calling wouldn’t work but e-mail would! We can keep in contact with each other,” he said happily.
Sho wasn’t sure how he felt. He knew that if everyone supported him, he might as well be happy. But why did he feel so confused?
“Oh, it’s time to close! Ready to go for dinner?” Aiba said.
Sho nodded and went to gather his stuff. Aiba went into the back to take off his apron and clock off. He leaned his back again the door and took a breather. He didn’t want him to leave. There was also a chance that he would never get to see him again after space. Hesitantly and hurt, he put on a smile and met Sho outside the shop. He locked up and they walked to a yakiniku restaurant.

Aiba leaned back in his chair while he waited for the bill. “Ah~ That was good,” he praised. “Isn’t it amazing…we met here for our first date a year ago.”
“You have some sharp memory,” Sho said.
Aiba smiled big and sighed. “It’s not that big an accomplishment. Unlike you. Going to space tomorrow… You must be feeling nervous right now!”
Sho looked down. “I truthfully don’t know how I feel about that, Aiba. I worked so hard for it; it seems unreal that I was able to start it so quick.” He sheepishly shrugged his shoulders and took a sip from the glass in front of him.
Aiba swallowed hard. He didn’t want Sho to go away. They always spent time together. Just after they met and started dating, Sho moved into Aiba’s apartment. The 23 and 24 year olds shared a bed, but hadn’t done anything in it other than sleep. Although he felt he shouldn’t think this way, Aiba had been meaning to get Sho in his pants and break in the mattress. He had an intense passion for the man, but he feared rejection and looking like a fool.
“I’ll be right back,” Sho said. He pulled the chair out and made his way to the bathroom.
The bill soon came and Aiba paid for it, all the while complaining about his ‘poor wallet.’ Sho came back a few minutes later and they left.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“You’ve been acting weird since I told you I got the job… are you alright?” Sho asked.
“Hm? What was that?” Aiba said, completely missing his question.
“Are you alright? You’re acting weird. Aiba…” Sho stopped in front of him and put his arms on Aiba’s shoulders. “You don’t have to act alright if you don’t feel that way. Didn’t we say that we’d be open about our feelings, even if we hurt the other?”
Aiba shook his head, and he couldn’t help the tears that fell. “Sakurai… I can’t do it… I can’t…”
“Can’t do what?” Sho encouraged.
“I can’t… Sakurai, I can’t…”
One year is a relatively short time for a perfect relationship. Aiba had loved the man since before the kiss and after it happened, everything fell into place. Aiba told himself that he’d never get attached to someone and now that he did…
“I don’t want to lose you!” he cried. “You’ll go up into space… and then what? I’ll be too old for you when you come back! You don’t age in space! Do you even know how long you’ll be up there anyway? I can’t do it!”
Sho understood. “Would breaking up be easier for you?” he asked sincerely.
“What? No! I don’t want you to leave… But I can’t get myself to tell you to stay with me…”
The truth came out.
“I can’t tell you to not follow the dream you’ve had… But I don’t want to lose you. I love you too much,” Aiba finished.
Sho took him into a tight embrace. These feelings the man had for him over these past few hours… they exploded.
“You’re right. There really isn’t anything that will make me change my mind.”
Sho was a stubborn, young man. But he always meant well. Aiba buried his head into Sho’s neck.
“I’ve made up my mind to go into space. But I want you to promise me something, Aiba. Don’t EVER stop contacting me.”
Aiba lifted his face from Sho’s shoulder and looked at him in the eyes.
“I never want you to stop mailing me! Always keep that phone on you,” Sho said.
Aiba had an urge to say ‘Take me with you!’ but he felt it was selfish. He could never say something like that to Sho.
“Would you reply?” Aiba sniffed.
Sho smiled. “I always reply, don’t I?”
Aiba went back to hugging him, even tighter this time. “I don’t know if I can live without you…”
“Then why don’t we make this a night that we’ll never forget?” Sho wrapped his arms around Aiba.
Aiba pulled his emotions together. “Sho, you can’t mean that….” He choked.
“There’s no time like the present,” Sho smiled. “Aiba Masaki, would you have sex with me?”
“Sho-chan!” Aiba hit him playfully. “You’re making me act like a bashful woman!” Not like he minded.
“I’m being dead serious, Masaki.”
The way Sho said his name sent shivers down his spine.
“Say my name again,” Aiba asked.
“Masaki~”
“That’s the first time you said my first name…”
“I use variations.”
“That’s not the same though,” Aiba laughed.
“Keep laughing… I don’t have much more time to listen to that laugh of yours… That’s how I fell for you in the first place…”
Sho and Aiba put their heads together. For all Aiba cared, the rest of the world could disappear and he could have Sho all to himself. Nothing else would matter. But… things never work out the way you plan them to be.
“I guess… we could…” Aiba hesitated.
Sho caught him off guard with a kiss. He felt nervous about what he said, but he meant it and wanted to show Aiba that he loved him. But that was more than what he could say for Aiba. Aiba’s stomach was doing flips. He worried if Sho was going to like what he saw… They had gotten into heated make-out sessions before where almost all of their clothes were gone. It wasn’t going to be any different when everything was gone, right?
Sho took his hand and they walked back to their apartment. Aiba would lag behind and Sho would wait patiently for him to be at his side. Sho understood that they were both nervous. But he was willing to do anything he could for Aiba. He truly didn’t want to leave him but it was a 24 year old dream.
When they arrived at the apartment, they took off their shoes in the door way, hung their jackets up and Sho put his briefcase down by his jacket and stood back. Putting his hands on his hips, he looked at a very nervous Aiba. Aiba was standing there fumbling with the bottom of his shirt.
“Are you ready?” Sho asked.
Aiba nodded and let Sho approach him slowly. Sho brushed Aiba’s hair from the left side of his face and proceeded with a kiss. It started out slow and passionate then Sho stopped.
“Are you sure we can do this?” he asked again.
“We might not ever have another chance…” was Aiba’s reply.
Sho sighed. “Okay… No regrets though…”
“I haven’t regretted anything I’d done with you.”
Their passion escalated. They started off slow and worked their way to intense. It started with light kisses and moved to shoving each other’s backs into walls and more kissing. Aiba’s stomach lurched a few times as he felt them getting more and more intimate. He was nervous. Sho was nervous. But they weren’t going to stop. Neither of them were forcing the other into it. They mutually accepted that this was what they wanted to do.
They made their way to the bedroom where Aiba was the first one pushed onto the bed and Sho was kissing his neck in an awkward position. Sho pulled the bottom of Aiba’s shirt up, exposing his small abdomen. Aiba wanted to raise a hand and pull his shirt back down, but he didn’t want to turn Sho off, so he let him do as he pleased. His warm lips were trying to touch every inch of skin. He soon kissed his way down the abdomen and to his belt line. He stuck his tongue out and licked a little; Aiba reacted with a small sensual moan as he felt the wet object against sensitive flesh. Sho soon left the younger man’s belt line and made his way to Aiba’s neck, then to his chin and found his way back to his lips. Aiba bucked his hips forward in sensation as Sho’s crotch rubbed against his own.
“I want you… so bad…” Sho said between heated kisses. “I want you inside of me…”
They stopped kissing and started to discard clothing, tossing articles every which way until they were both completely naked and staring at each other. Aiba reached over to the side table, opening up a draw and taking out a small tube and condom. He sheepishly smiled at the 24 year old who said:
“At least we’re being safe.”
Aiba started to massage Sho’s cock when he stopped him.
“I said I want you inside me.” Sho placed their heads together. “You can do it.”
Sho started to pump Aiba’s member up and down. It sent chills down his spine and the cooler air around them made it a little easier to become aroused. Once Aiba was in heat, Sho slid the condom on and started to apply the lubricant.
This was an entirely new experience for both of them. They both thanked watching porn for the educational lesson and making them, if anything, slightly more confident.
Aiba made Sho get on his hands and knees.
“Doggie style? You drive a hard bargain,” Sho laughed, positioning himself.
“I don’t want to hurt you.”
“I think you should put more lube on your fingers and on yourself. I’ve heard it’s painful…”
Aiba didn’t waste a second. He had heard that it hurt as well, only in the beginning but eventually it became pleasurable. He sure was glad that he wasn’t on the receiving end, but he was upset that he was the one doing the ‘hurting’.
Aiba inserted two fingers into Sho, slowly. Sho gasped.
“You’re so tight,” Aiba complained. He started to put more lube on everything. When he read up on anal sex he remembered one rule of thumb: If you think there’s enough lube, think again.
“Okay, I’m going to enter you…” Aiba warned. He positioned himself at Sho’s entrance and eased in.
Sho gasped and leaned forward hoping it would help the pain some. “Move, don’t stop…” he pleaded.
Aiba started slowly and sped up after a few seconds. They were both panting and sweating with each thrust. Aiba grabbed a hold of Sho’s pelvis as he moved in and out of the older man. After a minute in that position, Aiba pulled out and turned Sho over, lifting up his legs in the process. Aiba, although he was weak, he pulled Sho up into his lap and continued to thrust, holding onto him tightly; never letting go. This was even more awkward, seeing the pained person’s face.
Sho was breathing heavily in Aiba’s ear. Sho didn’t like to be touched when he was hot and sweaty but it didn’t faze him. They were all over each other. Sho’s nails dug into Aiba’s shoulders but he never complained.
“I can’t...” Sho gasped. Aiba felt Sho become rigid just before Sho came onto them and Aiba continued to thrust for another moment before he came into Sho and let the man fall back onto the bed.
Arms shaking, Aiba pushed himself to be next to Sho but ended up half on top of him; the sweat on their chests mixing together. Their breathing became metered and Aiba rolled over and took the condom off his member and stretched to the waste basket on his left.
“Want to go again?” Aiba asked.
“Hell no…”
Aiba fell silent.
“It hurt like hell… but if it’s with you, I don’t mind…” Sho faced him and smiled.
Aiba had a grin come across his face and a little disapproving laugh. “You couldn’t come up with something better than that?”
Sho didn’t know how to respond other than with stuttering, trying to make a sentence.
“It’s okay,” Aiba laughed. He rolled over with his back to Sho. Sho cuddled closer and draped an arm around his shoulders. He kissed his neck but the other man was already asleep.
‘Perhaps I pushed him too much,’ Sho thought, feeling sleepy himself.
Sho sorely got himself out of the bed and found his boxers. After slipping it on, he limped to his jacket by the front door and searched his pockets for his cell phone. Once found, he opened it up and set the alarm for an ungodly hour that only left him with a few hours sleep.
He backed up into a wall and leaned his head back. He sighed and lifted a hand to his head, ruffling his hair. Was this really what he wanted to do?
A tear fell from his eye.
