If season three doesn't have more of Steve looking out for and giving the kids profanity-laden advice, it is dead to me. Babysitter!Steve 4 life.
(Actually, I might want the fic where he becomes an eighth-grade social studies teacher, or some kind of middle school teacher, and he's the teacher all the kids love. And he and Nancy and Jonathan all live together, because I think I've jumped aboard the OT3 train. Also, how the hell did I end up liking Steve Herrington.)
Max was more of a plot device than a character, and not a very good plot device at that, but she and Lucas were cute, and I wouldn't mind seeing more of her next year. Billy was kind of pointless, though (he's evil! but really he's just abused! but he does nothing that affects the story beyond beating up Steve, and even that has no real effect!). He could not come back.
The whole thing felt messier than the first season, like there was just one too many storylines going on for everyone to keep track of and not all of them got the attention they deserved. I prefer having the characters doing stuff together, rather than being separated into 3-4 groups. I didn't dislike any of the storylines (minus Billy and Max's home life), but they would've been more fun with everyone. (Admittedly, some of this may be because I was jonesing for El and Mike to be reunited. They're very cute.)
El finding her "sister" had a very Orphan Black feeling to it, for some reason. I'd like to see more of the research subjects being found. Did they all escape? Did they die? What kind of powers do they have?
I appreciated that the female characters got to do all the saving, from Joyce and Nancy burning the shadow monster thing out of Will to Eleven closing the gate, killing demadogs, etc. I also liked that Dustin having been nice to the baby demadog was what saved the crew in the tunnel. Oh, and Bob the nerd being the only one who could open the doors, excellent. (Poor Bob. You knew from the moment he went into that building that he wasn't coming out, but I still liked him.)
