Ended up watching ST:D (ohhhh, just realized what that abbreviation looks like) 1.03

Did I just get dropped into a whole other show? It's not that I don't like this show; hell, I might even like it better than the one it replaced, with the exception of not having Michelle Yeoh as the captain. It's just...it bears almost no relationship to the previous two episodes. I was watching Star Trek and somehow stumbled onto a mashup of Fringe
and The X-Files, maybe tinged with BSG for the war aspect. We didn't even need the previous two episodes for backstory, really; it could've been handled in a flashback or two.

...This has to do with Bryan Fuller leaving, doesn't it?

Also: I THOUGHT YOU ALL WERE JOKING ABOUT THE SPACE!FUNGUS. JESUS.

Anyway. I like Michael a lot more than I did before, so that's good. She's way more fun since she got jailed! "Shit, that worked!" Heh.

Having Tory Foster as the security chief doesn't help the feeling that I've wandered well away from Star Trek. I like the actress, though, so yay. But can I just say--and I only put this here because it was very noticeable on the shot of her walking up the ramp of the docking bay from behind--the white soles on the Starfleet boots. Why. They all look like they should be on a basketball court. It totally breaks the mood.

Lorca's big reveal of what the fungus was all about did not go where I thought it would. I would not be surprised if it's also a weapon, because he's so obviously a bad guy in sheep's clothing that it makes my teeth hurt. I half-expect him to trail cigarette smoke.

Tilly's adorable with a tinge of "you're going to get really freaking annoying soon, aren't you?" The engineering chief is...special. Maybe I'll get to like him some day. But dude, work for future!DARPA, pay the price.

The annoying thing about this being a prequel is that we know the fungus-drive can't succeed, or if it does it can't be adopted into regular practice, or it would've been used in the other series.

...Fungus-drive. Shit. My brain hurts. ...I should watch more.
