One week never felt so long and so short all at once.
One week ago Samus was, at a slightly unreasonable hour in the morning, trailing Falcon's
blood trail after his miraculous escape from
Black Shadow. It took her the whole week to realize just how close he was to dying. His life came at the price of the Falcon Flyer ...and a lot of her time and energy.
One week later and Samus was tired. Far more tired than she wanted to admit... but she didn't mind. Price implied it was done as a contract, out of obligation, as a deal and for no other reason. She had spent the majority of Friday with Falcon, slipping back to the school only briefly to relocate her motorcycle, sneak Snake's birthday presents into his dorm, and packed a small bag with a fresh set of clothes and few other things. She only came back and forth to the school to teach her classes, run her her own errands and act as a protective/investigative second pair of eyes while Falcon could not be there. Sometimes she'd drive around the area and pick up whatever tiny fragments were left of the old Flyer when she came across them. Mr. Dolack remained mysteriously absent. Otherwise Samus spent as much time with the Captain she could, as long as he let her, as long as he felt he needed to lay low. As long as she could heckle him to properly recover, to keep drinking fluids, to take it easy and rest and let her pick up/cook the food [she was not always victorious in this regard. Stupid stubborn bounty hunter.], to try and cheer him up with an occasional rough blue-print for Flyer 2.0 [One maybe with some medical equipment built in. Samus could only hope it would not have to see any future use.], or even just idle chit-chat or banter.
...Mostly it was because she didn't want Falcon to feel alone. Especially after such a horrible shattering of his little safety bubble, a complete disruption of whatever normal life he thought he could build at the school. Rebuilding it was going to take time, and she was willing to stick by him and see it happen... if he wanted it to happen.
...Mostly it was because she didn't feel alone being with him, and realized that despite the dire situation... she never felt happy to be so tired.
Once Samus realized that, after all the brooding, after all the time spent with Falcon, she knew with an awful knot in her stomach couldn't put off talking to Snake any longer. Samus felt so dishonest with him that she was being more honest with herself. She didn't deserve it and he especially did not.
She was more tired of that than anything.
[Text message to Falcon's phone]
What are we eating tonight?
[Private to Olimar, Ionia, Jeff, Kyle, Otacon, Snake; unhackable]
Haven't heard from you in a while. How've you been this week? When did you want to go out for ice-cream again, Jeff? I'm really sorry I've been busy... What are [all of] your plans for... Father's day, if any? Just curious.
[Private to Raiden; unhackable]
Raiden, you have the keys to Mr. Dolack's office, right?
[Private to Snake; unhackable]
Snake... I need to talk to you.
[Ms. Aran may or may not of been looking and acting slightly more tired than usual this week if you manage to catch a glimpse of her on campus aside from in her class room. She has been around only very sparingly.]
To my Armed Weaponry students; basic weapons and demonstrations quiz has been postponed until next week. Take the opportunity to study. I mean it.
Char, I suddenly and mysteriously see you on my roster again. What a pleasant surprise.
