For the third time since we've lived here (about 4 years?), someone hit and damaged our mailbox.  The first time, we had to replace the box and post.  The second time we had to replace the box.  The barrel that the post lives in was also bashed and shifted over by several inches, but was still in good enough shape to not replace.  Then, last night ( Read more... )

Three times? This is when one of those big brick mail bunkers starts to look appealing.

Yeah, after the barrel got hit last time, Dino said that next summer he's going to replace it with a concrete container filled with concrete in the bottom. So, next time it gets hit, it won't move but the vehicle will definitely get damaged. I wouldn't say no to one of the brick dealies either, though.

Do you have the option of moving the mailbox to a different location on the edge of the lot? (Sims flashback! Mailbox can only be in certain locations!) If people keep backing into it, maybe moving it would help?

I empathize. Where I used to live, our mailbox was always getting damaged. Sometimes a drunk driver, sometimes the snow plow, and sometimes teenagers driving by with baseball bats. >:| What really bugged me was this one time someone backed into our neighbor's mailbox, and they actually left them a note. Did anyone ever pay us that courtesy? Noooo. But I think the neighbor a few houses down had it worse, because drunks were always knocking down their fence!

We haven't gotten the courtesy of a note yet either, and that really steams me. I know that if I did damage to someone else's property, no matter what it was, I would absolutely leave a note. The really annoying thing is that none of our neighbor's mail boxes ever seem to get hit, that I've noticed. Our box is on the inside of a very subtle curve in the road, however, and I think that might have something to do with it.
