Summary: “You aren’t the only case, Henli,” he told me, “you are the only one brave enough to step up. There are about 10 other known cases - and those are only the known ones."

“I’m pressing charges,” Julia said later, after dinner. The three of us sat in the living room, Hankyung, Julia and I. we waited until we knew for sure mom and uncle were sleeping to discuss what was going to happen. We’d tell them in the morning. “You can take it from me, but if you’re not going to, I’ll do it for you.”

Hankyung looked at me. He was seated on the back of the lazy-boy chair I sat on, a leg on either side of me, arms around my chest and chin on my shoulder.  “What are you going to do?”

I sighed and leaned back against Hankyung. “I don’t know.”

“What do you want?” Julia then asked, her dark eyes boring into me. “Henry….”

“I want to see him behind bars,” I said, after a while of silence. The quietness the room had, even with three persons occupying it, was loud, deafening. it loomed over us, and I felt like it would until I made up my mind. “I don’t ever want to see him anywhere else. But am I strong enough to testify against him…?”

Hankyung pressed his lips to my cheek and whispered, “of course you are. And I’ll be with you the whole time.”

The date of the trial came all too quickly, with my mother waking me up instead of Hankyung. “Henry baby,” she cooed softly, her hair tickling my cheeks, “time to get up.”

Hankyung was next to come to my room, as I was dressing in the black tuxedo I hadn’t worn since our parent’s wedding, not knocking on the door. I nearly jumped out of my skin, holding up the white undershirt to hide my bare chest. Hankyung just smirked, stalked towards me and threw the shirt away before leaning down and kissing the life out of me. “I’ve seen you with less clothes, baby,” he whispered greasily and kissed me again.

After I managed to gather the will to push Hankyung off of me, I finished getting dressed, ignoring Hankyung’s gaze. With one more kiss, we left my room and met up with mom and uncle in the front hall.

We didn’t have to wait for the babysitter long as Zhoumi entered the house grinning widely and dragging Kyuhyun behind him. Zhoumi didn’t want to go to court with them, but he wanted to support so when my mom mentioned we needed someone to watch Xiaoxing, he instantly agreed.

“The emergency numbers are on the fridge,” Mom said, hanging up the young men’s coats, “Xiaoxing should sleep for a little while longer, but if she wakes up, her food is in the door of the refrigerator. She’s easy to entertain.”

“You guys better behave,” Hankyung warned, finger in their faces. Zhoumi just smiled his toothy smile and Kyuhyun rolled his eyes, muttering something about idiocy, and how having a little child around is a turn-off.

The drive to the courthouse was silent, save for the static and soft music coming from the radio. Mom and uncle didn’t speak and neither did I or Hankyung. Silence, although heavy, wasn’t too uncomfortable when Hankyung squeezed my hand.

The courthouse, as law offices go, was beautiful. It was a tall building made of stone, had large windows, and colorful plant life on the outside. Inside, the floor and walls were made in marble stone with pictures of important government people and elegant bouquets of flowers. Mom and Uncle lead Hankyung and me to the courtroom where we met up with Julia and a man, too young to be a lawyer, in a clean black suit. They walked up to us and greeted us, the man in the suit shaking my hand in a firm grip, saying, “Don’t worry, Henli, I do this every day. He’s not going to be free for a long, long time.”

“Henry, Auntie, this is Lee-ssi. He’s the best lawyer in the area,” Julia said, in a soft but strong voice. “He knows everything and we’re trying to put Yunhae in for life.”

“For life?” I repeated stupidly, my eyes wide. That sentence is really extreme for a rape case and I feared the judge would dismiss the case due to unreasonable sentences.

Lee spoke up again before I could put any of my worries into words. “You aren’t the only case, Henli,” he told me, “you are the only one brave enough to step up. There are about 10 other known cases - and those are only the known ones. 4 of them are here today.”

I looked around the courtroom, and indeed there were four other families, just like mine. One was a girl who looked four or five years younger than me. She looked at me, her long black hair falling into her face. She turned back and said something to her parents and family with her before standing and walking over to me, my family, and my lawyer.

“Hello,” she said, her voice soft and sweet. She looked just like any little girl; she wore a black dress that came to her knees, black flats and long black hair that reminded me of Kuan. “My name is Lim Yeonhee, you are Lau Henli, right?” I nodded and she smiled. “It’s nice to meet you Lau-ssi, I only wish it was under better circumstances.”

“I just want to tell you, I’m really proud of you, Lau-ssi, for doing something we cannot. I want to thank you, too, for now my family and myself will have a security we would have never got if you weren’t brave enough to put Yunhae on court.”

I blushed under all the compliments she was shooting at me, and I felt very undeserving of them for I wasn’t the one who did this, it was Julia. She deserved all the praise, not me. And before I could respond, a hand came down on my shoulder. Turning, I saw none other than Kuan herself in clothes similar to the ones Yeonhee wore, only longer, spaghetti straps, and with heels. She smiled at me and greeted me, Hankyung and everyone else. “Sungmin will be here soon, he got lost.”

Soon, the trial began and my family took a seat just behind where I’d sit, next to Julia, as plaintiff, and Kuan and Sungmin, when he arrived, sat by Yeonhee and her family in the row behind mom, Uncle, and Hankyung. Yunhae was led into the room in a unappealing orange jumpsuit by two jail guards, glaring darkly at each of the four families in the room, then even harder at me and Julia. Hankyung reached forward and squeezed my shoulder while Julia clasped my hand.

Through many endless hours of testifying and hearing Yunhae and his lawyer shouting and trying to get the life-sentence Julia, Lee-ssi, and I were pushing for, the trial was over. Yunhae received only a few years minus what we were pushing for, 90 years instead of life. But I was very happy with this result anyway - most likely that horrid man would be dead before 9o years passed and he could file for parole. But before Yunhae was dragged back to whatever jail he came from, he snapped and began shouting the most vulgar things at me and Julia. He jumped over the table and charged at us, and I’m not too sure what happened, but I was pushed and there was a loud crash. Looking up from the place on the floor I must have fallen to, I saw Hankyung in front of me and Yunhae on the floor in front of him with a bleeding, and possibly broken, nose. Before Yunhae could get up and charge at Hankyung, the guards grabbed him and took him away.

“Henli!” and suddenly I was surrounded by Mom, Uncle, Kuan and Sungmin, Yeonhee, Julia, my lawyer, and the other families who were affected by Yunhae. They were all talking, and it sounded more like a gibberish mess than any language I knew. I was still dazed, but when Hankyung took me by the underarms and hauled me to my feet, it was all ok.

After thanking Lee-ssi, saying goodbye to Kuan, Sungmin, Yeonhae and the others, whose names I learned were Lee Taemin (and his brother Lee Jinki), Kim Kibum (and his brother Jonghyun), and Choi Minho, and exchanging contact information, we left for home.

The trial had drained everyone, myself included. Mom left for a nap, after thanking babysitter Zhoumi and Kyuhyun, and Uncle disappeared into his office. Zhoumi and Kyuhyun hung out with us a little while longer, chatting and telling them the results of the trial before Zhoumi had to return to his own home for a business ‘thing’ as he called it, dragging Kyuhyun out the door with him.

When the front door closed with a affirming slam, Hankyung stood and tugged on my arm, urging me to stand. I looked at him for a moment before I did as he wanted. He smiled at me, pecked my lips and lead me up the stairs to his room where he pulled me down to the bed. Kissing me again, he smiled and told me to sleep. “I’m proud of you Henry,” he whispered just as I was drifting off, “I’m so very proud of you, baby.”

Summary: “I’m so proud of you, Henry!” Hankyung almost shouted as he scooped me into his arms and kissed my mouth. “I love you so much,”

Finally, after four long years of dragging our feet through high school, we were graduating. My mom had woke me up that morning, with a bright smile and promises of food, with little Xiaoxing at her feet. Minutes after she left, I pulled myself out of bed and dressed in the black slacks and the long sleeved, white collared shirt that we had to wear under our graduation robes and met my mom downstairs to eat anything my sister hadn’t beaten me to.

I was at the school before Hankyung had even budged from his bed, but I had no time to think about him as Kuan appeared in front of me. We talked for a long while until a teacher came to us and told us we had to go line up. After a long and boring ceremony, we graduated high school.

“I’m so proud of you, Henry!” Hankyung almost shouted as he scooped me into his arms and kissed my mouth. “I love you so much,” he whispered against my lips, kissing me again, before our friends showed up and teased us. Hankyung, prideful as always, wrapped his arms over my stomach and pulling me back into his chest, sticking out his tongue at the others.

Soon, everyone was at my house, in our backyard where Uncle was cooking beef and chicken on the grill, Xiaoxing was playing in her clubhouse with Yonsun, Jinki, Jonghyun and Kibum, Sungmin and Kuan were on the swingset and Mom was in the kitchen with Minho and Yeonhee cooking vegetables and preparing other food. Music was playing and everyone was having a grand time. That is, until Hankyung pulled me to the patio and told me he had a surprise for me. I was naturally curious, but wary as Hankyung had a mischievous glint in his black eyes. He suddenly turned around and opened the screen door, calling inside the house and suddenly, a young man with tan skin, messy blonde hair, and the most beautiful jade eyes I’ve ever seen appeared and a huge smile broke out on my lips. “Jude!!” I shouted, tackling the tall Englishman in front of me.

Jude laughed brightly and caught me in his strong arms and hugged me tight, only letting me go when Hankyung cleared his throat. “I missed you, Henry!” he exclaimed, his smile as bright as the sun, “what happened to calling me every day?” I laughed and apologized, telling him that I just got busy over the years. “Well, at least you e-mail semi-regularly. But you’re boyfriend here is scary!” Jude exclaimed, as if Hankyung wasn’t in hearing distance, “he called me up one day, told me he bought a plane ticket for me and told me I absolutely had to be on it otherwise he’d hunt me down. I was terrified!”

I stared wide-eyed at Hankyung, who did nothing to his defense. But, then again, it’s something he would do. “But, anyway, creeper boyfriend or not, I’m glad I came,” Jude said, “Congrats on graduating.” Jude pressed a light kiss to my cheek and turned to explain to Hankyung that it was an English thing when Hankyung got mad.

The rest of the party went smoothly into the night when everyone went their own ways.

My mom and I were in charge of clean-up (as the maid was dismissed early), as Uncle retired to his office to try and finish the work he missed while having fun and Hankyung had passed out on the couch. There wasn’t a whole lot to clean up, just simple, nit-picking things and as we were cleaning the kitchen, my mom turned to me and said, “You know, this whole thing was Hankyung’s idea?”

I looked at her and called her bluff, but she just smiled and asked, “Why do you think he passed out so soon?” I blinked a couple times and mom, grinning, went back to work, scrubbing the sink. I dropped the towel in my hand and went to the living room where Hankyung was sleeping. I kneeled down next to the couch by where his head rested and stared at him. I brushed the hair out of his face and whispered, “pabo” before resting my chin on the couch and allowing my eyes to fall closed.

I spent the next few days with my boyfriend, showing Jude around the city like I promised him I would so many years ago. We took him to all the best spots for food, games, clothes, and music, and had a lot of fun trying on clothes and singing at the closest Noraebang. In the end, Jude bought a ‘TVXQ’ t-shirt and CD, promising he’d show it to Henry’s father as soon as he returns to the office.

Jude left for Canada a few days later, and this time we stayed in real good contact, IM-ing each other regularly along with e-mails.

A few days into summer vacation it was Xiaoxing’s fourth birthday. All her friends from her preschool/daycare came and they had a huge SNSD party where they ate lots of food, cake, and candy, exchanged gifts and played party games like Red Rover and Pin the Tail on the Donkey. Hankyung and I were in charge of making sure none of the kids hurt themselves while running around and throwing colorful balloons filled with ice water at each other when Hankyung startled me. “Move out with me.”

I turned and stared at him with wide eyes. “W-What?”

He turned and looked at me as well, his expression solumn and 100% serious. “I found an apartment in the city. It’s close to here and has very reasonable rent,” he said like he was reciting it, “and I want you to move in with me.”

I blinked and looked to my hands, my mind racing a million miles an hour. This simple thing of moving to an apartment with him would mean so much. It would mean that I’m not a child anymore, I’d need to get a job to help pay rent and try to fit in more schooling with it. It would mean that I can no longer rely on mom or Uncle, and I won’t see them every day like I do now. It would mean that I’m an adult, moving in with a lover, and we’d have to deal with all the criticisms of being an openly gay couple in the real world.

“You don’t have to,” Hankyung said when I was silent for a while. He was looking back at our half-sister playing with her friends. “You can stay here if you want. It won’t change anything.”

I pursed my lips and thought only a moment longer until I thought that thinking so much about a matter like this is stupid and said, “Yes. Yes, I’ll move with you.”

Hankyung jerked and stared at me, with wide eyes. It was almost laughable how the situation was turned around, so that he was the one caught off guard instead of me for once. “Really?”

“Yeah,” I said, a small smile forming on my face. “Yeah, I’ll move in with you.”

Hankyung blinked and stuttered, “Y-You know w-what that means, r-right?” I grinned wider and nodded, my hair falling into my face. I had no time to think about what was happening as Hankyung’s hands held my face and he swooped in and kissed me. Neither of us thought for a moment that we weren’t alone and that we were in the presence of children , we were reminded when the girls began giggling. Hankyung, blushing for the first time that I can remember, pressed our foreheads together and said, “I love you, so much.”
