First off I am posting using my EEE PC which i do use a great deal of time at home also. I have refrained from using my desktop computer as it is connected to a 37 1080p monitor (so both on = about 800 watts of power use)... Yeah off grid living is what I would do if I had a house as well. I have yet to try modern solar technology but plan on it. I heard that Toshiba now has mini nuclear reactors that are slef sustaining and by design cant melt down, they use a lithium isotope and run for 40 years with no intervention. They have one of these set to be tested in a Japanese high rise...

As for the MP3 player it is a NWZ-A729. I have always loved the audio quality Sony mp3 products have produced but refused to use them until just last year when they released a device that uses MTP and UMS protocols. Before hand you were stuck with sonic stage software that used a proprietary protocol to transfer songs with windows only software. With the new ones I can use UMS and use it like a flash drive to load content! No memory card slots though, but 16GB is a crap load of music! The player does not have many features, but the sound quality is all I care about.
