Depending on how you count it-- that is, whether you choose to consider him as dead (brain dead) before he got to the hospital or dead when he took his last breath more than a week later-- today could be said to be the anniversary of my dad passing away. Wow, a year since the worst moment of my entire life, and it wasn't even my family. I'd imagine your mom didn't say anything because, well, what is there to see? It was a horrible, life-changing event, and there's nothing anyone can do about it now. You're completely right about the cleaning- she likes being in control of the house, and it's definitely cathartic for her.

I think what Ben said to you was really sweet- that might actually be nicer than what I thought could possibly come from him. And it's true, of course; your dad would certainly be proud of you, not just for how much music you've performed and how much you've learned, but for how great a person you are as a whole.
