You posted in my LJ, and I will post my response here to keep it less visible to those who read my LJ. Feel free to screen or delete this post or whatever after having read it.

-Once in a while I will browse journals belonging to friends of friends and friends of friends friends and ...well you get the idea.
I use LJ mostly as a means of contact with my friends. I tend to friend only those people I actually know "irl," and want to keep up with. The exception to this are those people who technically HAVE LJs but never use them; no point in wasting time waiting for updates that will never come, eh? Aside from the sexy word community and the Gaiman feed, everyone on my friend list is someone I actually know and want to keep up with. For that reason, I almost never read other people's friends list; there's not anyone on there that I want to stay in touch with.

-and I'm aware of a writing blog you have but I don't read that one since it's not my thing really. (no offense intended) butHad. I no longer update that journal. I got tired of
