Daddy, Teddy, and I
“Dongjun sweety, appa is going for work now. You must be a good boy, okay?”
“How long will you go?” The boy asked his dad, his chubby cheeks blushed red.
“Maybe for a week. Dongjunnie must eat a lot okay? If you’re being a good boy, appa will buy you some toys. What do you want?”
“Teddy bear!” Dongjun quickly replied. “A giant one! With a red bow tied on his neck! Can I?”
“Of course you can, as long as you behave well.” Junyoung patted his son’s head and smiled. “Promise appa…”
“Ne, promise…” Donjun linked his pinky finger with his dad’s. “Appa, be careful on your way. I will be a good boy and obey Mrs. Kim.”
“Good. Then appa will be off now. Bye bye…” Junyoung waved his hand and left.
Dongjun had no idea; he really had no idea that it would be the last time he saw his father.
A week later, right when Dongjun was about to go to sleep, there were two men came to his house. They talked to Mrs. Kim, his nursemaid and suddenly she cried. Dongjun didn’t know why Mrs. Kim cried that time, or why she hugged him so suddenly and kept telling him that he’d be okay, poor him.
What he knew was he got his teddy bear, they told him it’s from his dad. But where’s his dad?
“Appa will go for a little longer.” They told him that time. “You have to be patient with this teddy bear.”
Dongjun nodded and brought his new teddy bear to his bed. But then, although he waited for a couple days, even for months, his dad would never come back.
“Where is appa?” Dongjun asked while he’s having his breakfast. “Dongjunnie has always been a good boy, right?”
Mrs. Kim sighed. “Ne, Dongjunnie is a good boy. Always.”
“But why is appa not coming back?” Dongjun stirred his cereal. “Appa has never been this late before.”
“Dongjunnie my baby…” Mrs. Kim hugged that innocent boy. She really felt sorry for him; being an orphan at this young age. “Your daddy is gone, he won’t be back.”
“Gone?”
“Your appa,” Mrs. Kim wiped her tears. “He had a car accident, his car blown up and what’s left was only that teddy bear.”
Dongjun remained silent; he stared blankly at his cereal.
“So does it mean that I can’t meet him again?”
“No dear, appa is going to heaven. To your mother’s place.”
“So now I’m alone?”
“You have me, Dongjun.” She caressed his hair. The boy showed no reaction. “I will always stay by your side.”
“Mrs. Kim…” Dongjun muttered. “Let me stay in orphanage.”
“But Dongjunnie…”
“I don’t want to be with anybody but my father!!!” Dongjun yelled so loud, his tears coming through his reddish cheeks. “….if daddy left me, then just put me in an orphanage.”
That was the first and final statement from 7 years old boy who finally realized that his father has gone.

10 years later.
“Dongjun-ah,” A boy sits beside Dongjun. The latter boy leans his back near the big windowsill; carefully keeps an eye upon the people outside. “What are you doing?”
“There’s someone outside. Probably he wants to adopt kids here.” Dongjun coldly replies.
“But it’s definitely won’t be us right?” The boy laughed painfully. “Nobody wants teenager like us.”
“I don’t know. I don’t care either…” Dongjun says. “I’m okay just to be with my teddy bear.”
“You don’t want to be with me?” The boy pouts; Dongjun can’t help not to smile.
“With you too, Taehunnie.” Dongjun smiles.
Taehun has been his friend for years. Ever since he decided to stay in this orphanage, it would be always him, Taehun, and Jun together. Jun, his teddy bear that he got from his father.
It's already 10 years passed. But yet, Dongjun can't forget about his dad. Even now, he still keep his promise to his dad. He's behaving well even though he can only open up to Taehun and his bear.
Right, his bear. It's a replacement for his dad's presence, so he would talk to it every day like he used to do with his appa. It's kinda sad for a 17 years old boy like him.
“Dongjun, Taehun, come with me for a moment.” Mrs. Lee, the owner of the orphanage, instructs them to follow her.
“Is there something we can help, Mrs. Lee?” Taehun politely asks. Taehun was raised in this orphanage since he was 3 years old, so he knows nobody but Mrs. Lee as his parents.
“Mr. Moon, they are the only teenager kid in this orphanage.” Mrs. Lee says. She brings Taehun and Dongjun into the front of a middle-aged man.
Dongjun can’t believe his sight that time. It must be a dream. No way!
It’s impossible that his father stands in front of him now!!! He might look a bit older, but that figure, it’s exactly the same as his father.
But why?
“Mr. Moon is looking for a teenager to adopt. He lost his son years ago because he had an accident and got separated with his son. Now he’s looking for his son.”
Appa, this is your son. Appa, do you still recognize me?
“Well, it’s up to you now, Mr. Moon.” Mrs. Lee says.
Mr. Moon nods and makes a step forward. Dongjun doesn’t even have the guts to look at him. To look at the direction he’s taking now.
He’s afraid that his father won’t remember him, and instead, he will choose Taehun.
But Taehun also deserved to be love.
Dongjun sighs. That is why, he never like to be adopted.
A second later, Dongjun could feel a warm hand on his head, caressing his hair like someone used to do years ago.
“You’ve grown out well, Dongjunnie.” Mr. Moon pats the young boy’s head. “Have you been a good boy while I’m gone?”
Dongjun could not help but to shed tears when he finally dares himself to look up. The tough and cold side of him has melted in front of his dad.
“I’ve always been.” He says between his sobs. “Where have you been? They told me that you’re dead.”
“I’m sorry that I’m gone for too long.” Mr. Moon says; he embraces his son. “Appa come to pick you.”
“Welcome back Dad,” Dongjun whispers the words he’s been longing to say from a long time.
“Chukkahaeyo…” Taehun whispers, his tears are flowing due to happiness. He’s happy because Dongjun has finally met his dad. He believes, someday, there will be someone who’s going to be his family. Like Dongjun’s.
“But appa, I can’t leave Taehun alone. I’m not going to leave my friend for years here.” Dongjun suddenly says after he wipes his tears.
“I am going to adopt the two of you.” Mr. Moon gently smiles. “Don’t you worry about it.”
Gently Mr. Moon walks toward Taehun and brings him into his embrace. “Welcome to our family, Taehun. Let the three of us rebuild our family.”
“Four, dad.” Dongjun reminds him. “You can’t forget the teddy bear you bought for me.”
“You still keep the doll?” Mr. Moon smiles. “You’re really a good boy.”
“I told you I’ve always been.” Dongjun grins. “So will it be the four of us?”
“Sure. You wouldn’t mind right, Taehun?”
Taehun shakes his head. His tears come even harder; he can’t believe that he finally has a family.
“I’ll take that as a yes.” Mr. Moon pats Taehun’s head. “Welcome to the family, my sons.”
The three of them hug each other. Now it will be Daddy, Teddy Taehun and him, isn't it? (=
