This might help to make your driving-related nightmares a little less intimidating.... Automotive glass has, for at least the last 20 years, been designed not to shatter the way regular glass does. Windshields in particular are extremely durable and it's difficult to make them collapse even with firearms. It's possible that the deer would have broken your windshield, but its shape would have remained intact and no pieces of it would be dislodged. Even if your windshield or window does "shatter", the result will be several hundred small pieces of glass the size of pebbles which aren't very sharp at all. In summary: shards of glass are one thing you don't have to worry about if you're in a car accident.
