Disclaimer: I do not own Naruto, and i never will.
He has always watched from a distance.
The academy days do not bring warm fuzzy feelings to him. Instead, those nostalgic moments only drive him to further irritation. He regrets that despite knowing how painful it was to be alone, he couldn’t bring himself to speak to him then.
Sasuke was afraid. They say, once bitten, twice shy. He liked his clan, liked his family, loved his brother. And that was all gone in a day. He was a smart boy. He learns his lessons. He decides, he wouldn’t even look at him. His mouth claims his worthless; his heart thinks it’s not true. So he permits himself to only two glances a day.
He keeps away from people because he does not want them to pry into his heart and unlock this secret of his. So he remains at a distance and keeps a cold front. After all, he was a genius - turned traitor from the Uchiha clan and he is probably expected to.
He claims that he left Konoha for revenge, his heart thinks otherwise again. Sasuke can’t take it anymore. It hurts him to see that the girl whom the boy he like likes, is totally obsessed with him. So he rejected her and left. Sasuke decides that a happy Naruto would be worth way more than his two glances. He’ll make a sacrifice no one knows.
As one grows, they mature. He begins to understand. He realizes that Naruto needs a Sakura to calm him down but he hopes that someday the flowers will turn into ravens.
Yet he continues wishing about this anyway.
It irks him. That both of them will not give up. It irks him further when Naruto claims to be his brother. He says he will break that bond between them because he knows that he wants another bond instead.
Beyond the village gates, a sharingan user smiles. Naruto has finally been appointed as the Rokudaime. But as he sees through those crimson eyes of his, a certain pink haired kunoichi hugging Naruto tightly, those feelings return yet again.
It is knowing that it is out of reach and yet wanting it so badly that makes wishing all so painful. But he doesn’t stop.
He wishes that he could be the one there, taking her place. But deep down in him he acknowledges that those hopes will never become a reality. That he will never be given a chance to do what she does to him. He can only watch from a distance.
Because he is a boy. Two Xs were never meant to be together. Two wrongs were never a right.
