I seem to be going through another phase of trying new fruits. When this urge hits, I usually look for tropical or exotic stuff. This time, though, I'm trying out different varieties of pears ( Read more... )

You might want to go some research on the produce available since some really shine when cooked or baked or poached rather than eaten raw.

If you can get good Honeycrisp apples, I definitely recommend them.

That is what I was going to recommend. We used to go to an apple picking farm before Rosh Hashana. They told us on the day the Honeycrisps ripen the lineup is so long that if you arrive when they open you will get in shortly before they closed for the day.

I was coming to recommend Honeycrisps too. I went on vacation last month and had one for the first time and it was the best apple I'd ever eaten in my 41 years of life.

Me too. Tasted them for the first time a couple years ago, and now I watch out for them when they're in season. Yum!

I like Bosc pears too, both raw and in a pear-sauce seasoned with ginger.

I like Bosc pears a lot. Especially with pepper jack, yum!
