Farewell Poseidon

Jan 27, 2008 09:42

I went to adopt Poseidon yesterday, but he was gone. I know he was just a mouse, but I was sad. I actually think I want a gerbil though. They are kind of a cross between a mouse and a hampster, and they won't grow up to get BIG BALLS like rats do. I'm sorry, but I don't trust the store when they say that rats are female ( Read more... )

Both my rats had huge balls, but that just made them endearing. ;) That and male rats are better than female rats. Much more playful and nice!!

A friend of mine raised rats -- he had 15-20 of them at any one time -- and I learned a lot from him. Also, his cats were very afraid of the room where he had all the cages hahaha!

I think rats are SO cute and I love to watch them. I would definitely want at least two of them to be sure that they are having their social needs met.

That's so funny that you want a border collie...I was just playing with one at the pet store today. I want another dog for my 30th bday which is in March. I do want a smaller dog cuz we have a big one...i LOVE norfolk terriers. But I started looking at border collies even though they're bigger...so cute and fun and SMART! I hope you get one!

I had three border collies growing up, and I just can't help but feel like they are the ideal dog. Yes, they shed. But other than that I am hard pressed to find a dog as sweet, smart and loyal as a border collie naturally tends to be.

I hope you get a doggie for your birthday, that would be so wonderful!!

I'd say the drop in weight is from not drinking the juice. I just wrote a book about this and there are at least 3 chapters dedicated to that very thing. Most people don't really think about this, or maybe they don't know it, but sugar makes you gain weight. It's not even about calories in/calories out type thing. It's way more complex. But there's A TON of sugar in juice. Yeah, I know, everyone thinks it's healthy and it does have a bunch of vitamins in it, but it's loaded with sugar and makes you keep weight on. So I'd be willing to bet that cutting out the juice made you lose that extra weight.

I agree.

I have decided that I was going about the recipe all wrong. I was doing about three cups of kale, four to five carrots, and three apples. I am going to now be doing six carrots, some parsley, beets and half of one apple. I hope that improves things a bit. Any other recommendations? I love having a juicer, but I feel like I don't know the first thing about making healthy juice!

Hm... it's tough. Ironically carrots are super high in sugar... that's what makes the juice so sweet and makes it taste so good. You could try cutting back on the carrots and adding some celery instead. That's pretty harmless... it's mostly water.

Thank you, Amy. I am amazed at how little people know about what he or she will eat on any given day. I feel like I know more about what I don't eat (dairy, sodium) than what I do. And carrots being sweet definitely should mean, "hello, there's sugar in them!!"

I am going to try that.

I also wanted to make my own version of V8 (tomato, carrot, celery, beets, parsley, lettuce, watercress and spinach) because a tiny 5 oz serving has SO much sodium.

I'll have to play around with my recipes, but I definitely want to cut back on the fruit.
