Ok, so first Hamas made an incursion into Israeli territory kidnapped the soldier and killed two others. Israel took a hard line, no prisoner exchanges and started debilitating the gaza strip, theoretically with the intent of getting him back. They took out the only power station in one area, the water plant has a back up generator but its running out of fuel. A humanitarian crisis is imminent. Hamas is being stupid and asking for the release of something like 1000 prisoners in exchange for this one guy. It's worse than it was before because now Hamas is in the government.
A couple of days ago, Hezbula pulled the same trick. They made a similar raid and captured a couple of soldiers. So now Israel is giving them the same treatment. Only, Lebanon can fire back.
