I will say this on Glee's behalf; the show sports a genuine affirmity for diversity. Blacks, Asians, Gays, the physically handicapped, and the mentally challenged are all portrayed in an environment where they are treated with equal rights. The show is not colorblind, such that it would demand only that all characters sing well without anything distinguishable about their personality, as clearly the characters do demonstrate the characteristics associated with being black, asian, gay, handicapped, etc. Yet it doesn't extend to exploitation. This is particularly refreshing for Kurt, who is openly gay, obviously gay, but isn't excessive to the point of stereotype
