I actually really like where you went with this, honestly. I think some contrast in his face and hands might be nice to make his skin pop out more against all the redness, but the deep red color itself is done well. Plus, it makes him look devilish and menacing which is awesome and appropriate with that particular image.
Haha, thanks Kim. Sometimes I'm such a bitch with my own icons, but I can't help it. And I don't know, maybe it's just because it's red. Maybe if it had been purple I wouldn't have minded the coloring. But still, I like the contrast of my icons to be bolder and there are only midtones and no proper highlights in this icon. And it bugs me :D
Seconding the really liking this icon, Val, sorry! Haha. I really love the monochrome aspect of this icon; although I can definitely understand why that might frustrate you because I have the exact same issue all the freaking time. I'd probably scrap this icon if I had made it myself, buuuuuuut as a viewer and not the maker, I really love it. It's very intense which matches his expression so well, and I think all the red sort of compensates for an otherwise 'eh' type of crop. And I love the subtle glow around him coming off the lockers.
If you wanted to add some diversity, you might go for a really visible white texture though. Something like you did here, maybe? It would break up the monotone-esque colors and add a little something to the crop while also giving the illusion of more contrast, I think.
LJ Y U NO NOTIFY? Sorry bb, never noticed your comment because LJ marked it as suspicious and I never got the notification :|
I don't know why I dislike this icon so much, but I think it's a matter of contrast. You know I'm OCD about the contrast. And all I can see is midtones all over it and I wasn't able to add some proper highlights because it got pixelly very quickly. Maybe I'll just start over, from the original cap, because I don't know if I can/want to fix this one :D
Your sharpening and blurring is impeccable, tbh! I'd be proud to have made this icon. Just save it for Halloween and throw some devil horns on him, or something.
i like it too :p he's so devilish and i also like the color of his skin *why have i been paying so much attention to skin lately? :o*
I, personally, like the highlights, if i was the maker i might have painted black over his hair and set it to soft light and played with the opacity if it got too black, you know. The biggest midtones area happens to be his hair, so if you're annoyed with the shadows/highlight balance, this spot is the cause i think.
the psd 'cause obviously i can't talk today without confusing everyone :D dk if i've made it better or worse, though.
Thanks! But the problem isn't the hair, the problem is the whole icon! :D There are some highlights (the white bars behind him), some shadows (the black shadows casted by his hands) and that's all. The rest of it is only midtones, to me. I'm just a contrast OCD, I'm aware of it :D
