Hi fellow icon makers, it's 4 four months into 2013, and so I thought I would do a sort of progress meme things as we had one similar last year plus it would be nice to get some conversation going in this comm. So explain your favourite icons & techniques you have made, managed and loved also your worse and your areas for improvement

What are your 5-10 personal favourite icons you have made so far in 2013?
Honestly? I like about 99% of what I've posted thus far this year. So...that's probably a good thing.

The 4th and 10th icons from your favs are just beautiful. If you're pushing to improve on this you're gonna have some mind-blowing icons by the end of the year cause these are all already so well made!

That it is working thus far is, like, the biggest understatement in the history of ever. I mean the blocking in your second favorite icon alone...*faints* It's incredible!

I know I've said this in the past, but I really do adore your work... to the point of fangirlling. Your complex icons are always perfection and your B&W icons are so beautiful too.

I love 4 and 5 of your favourites. The off-blacks are really pretty and I love the blues in #5.

Well I went to have a look at your work and you seem to have a tendecy toward simple icons. I know you like to icon celebs but maybe try masking out the background or using negative space more to augment your style and just offer up something different?
Maybe try looking through wickdshy's graphics comm. She has a style that's quite simple but her posts are still very varied. Another maker you might want to check out is fan_cifully over at fan_cicons.
Lastly this tutorial list (also by fan_cifully) is like my icon bible. Hopefully you'll find it useful as well :)

I've really loved your work this year; your colouring and use of lights and darks are really well done. Only concrit I have is that your use of text is a little weak, playing around with the blend settings sometimes helps make the text mesh more with the icon, besides that I couldn't fault you even if I tried! <3

Ahh I know, I'm afraid of using text because I get really angry with myself when I see I can't even manage with it, and I end up deleting the whole icon... But I definitely need to start practising and playing with fonts, colours and blending, because I love text icon, but I just can't find the way to make it work in my icons :/

That sounds like me when I use text ;D
The trick I used was to get comfortable using text textures (because they're restrictive you spend the time playing with blending and positioning) then start on applying your own text directly. I know it's hard cause of the 20inspirations round expected a whole batch of text icons, but if you're not having to do it for every icon it's a good way to ease yourself into using text.

I definitely like your texture use in #1 of your favourites. The light texture gives the icon a very dreamy sort of quality despite the bold colours (which I also love). From your faves, I have to say that you work very well with the colour blue. #9 in particular is gorgeous :)

Thank you. I was going for a sunrise kinda look on #1 coming off the beach in the morning. I do work well with blue, red and green.
