“S/He who is brave is free.”

Recently this quote has been on my mind, mostly due to work-related things. Coming back to the icon community it also caries a lot of meaning. In the past I've had several accounts and made icons under different names especially when coming out of an hiatus, because there are these expectations that come with being a relatively known maker and ( Read more... )

I'm one of these newcomers in the icon community I think, I started in late 2011 so it's been about a year and a half since I've started making icons and probably little less than a year since I've in 'in' the icon community. As a new maker I see all these things written about how the icon community is dying etc. and it makes me wonder how it was before. And wish that I had discovered icon making earlier. But because of that I'm trying to be more active, comment more & participate more because I don't want the community to die - and because I do like iconning and I enjoy doing it.

Re: pressure though I think I don't get a lot of that because I'm not exactly an elite/big name maker nor do I make icons for fandoms known to like...anybody. It really sucks though how much the animanga icon community has lost a lot of activity even just within the last 2 years.

That's sad. The only contests I used to join before I left were animanga contests haha. Oh, I did join a Star Wars icontest as well, lol. There were very few multifandom contests.

But gawd, I just can't with animated/anime icons these days. Sigh. I'm so sorry

I think what was more sad is that I stumbled into loads of them just as they were dying, places like illustratest, shounenbattle, battleothesexes, anime-rumble and rocknrumble. I only found like a month or two before they died/ were already dead. There was such an awesome animanga icon community back then that I wish I had been a part of :c

Awww ;A; good luck though, I'm sure the gears would start turning in that fabulous brain of yours
