Today we'll go from:
this
to this
Program: Photoshop CS2
Difficulty: Medium, if you're not used to Curves, easy if so.
Steps: 5
- This tutorial is very image-friendly, meaning that it works well with most images. If not with just the base layer, you can duplicate it and set it to screen and adjust it as fit.
1) Crop base to 100x100 or as desired. This can be done by going to File>New and setting the width and height to 100 pixels, then pasting your picture and resizing. You can also sharpen your picture a little if you'd like by going to Filter>Sharpen>Sharpen. If it is too sharp, go to Edit>Fade Sharpen and adjust.
2) Once you have your picture ready, we're going to adjust the lighting just a tad by making a Levels layer. So go to Layer>New Adjustment Layer>Levels. Use the settings below, or click
here for an example.
Channel: RGB
Input: 34, 1.13, 249
Output: 18, 255
Here's what we've done so far...

3) Next we're going to add that grungy pinkish glow you see in the
final product. Make a new layer and fill it will #ffebeb, a light pink color, and set it to multiply at 100%. This can also be done by going to Layer>New Fill Layer>Solid Color, choosing Multiply 100%, and entering the color. Your layer palette should now look something like
this.

4) Now we're going to add even more of a grungy faded feel to it by adding another new fill layer with #000118 and setting it to Difference at 54%. If you need more direction on how to do this, refer to the above step.
Now we've got...

5) This is the last, but hardest step. It is kind of difficult if you aren't used to using Curves, but just follow along and you should do fine :)
Make a new Curves layer by going to Layer>New Adjustment Layer>Curves. Use the settings below OR view the guideline I created...
-If you are new to Curves, please note that you don't make a new curves layer with every new point, you continue on with the same layer with each new point. Again, DO NOT click OK each time you make a new point :)

-If you need any help on the Curves, just ask. I tried to help but I may have just made it a lot more complicated than it really is, hehe :)
So here's the results!

Your layer palette should now look something like
this. Much better, eh? :)
-If your picture is very dark after using this, simply right-click your image layer, select duplicate layer, and set that layer to screen and adjust to your liking.
So, I'd love to see your results, and remember, this tutorial is VERY image-friendly, so you can use just about any image and get a nice, warm coloring. Thanks for using my tutorial, and be sure to comment and show me your results
here at my personal journal! :)
