Hello peeps. Well yes, I've come out of my 'never going to write a tutorial' shell to bring you this tutorial. It is the first I've written, so calm yourselves it probably isn't brilliant. I'm using Corel Paint Shop Pro X to make this but it though be transferable -except for one step that involves High Pass Sharpen- does anyone know what the equivilant of that would be in other versions or programs?
Because I'm a layer and image whore this may not be for the faint of heart; also I'm prone to ramble at one stage or another, get used to it or don't click the cut ;) Though I don't reconmend people follow tutorials to the dime, because how boring would that be? Comment if it's helpful, I wouldnt mind seeing results and also the finished icon is up for grabs, just credit me.
Today we are going from:
to
Okay well first off we start off with our base, in this case it's
(base by
shadowshamrock).
Now this is how I prepare most of my bases (though it really depends on the base and ow I want to use it.), it's probably nothing unusual to a lot of people, I find it quite basic, but anyways.
First you take the base and paste it as a new image, then you make sure you have your layers palette (you'll need it *thumps over head*) and duplicate the base image twice. Set the middle layer to screen and the top layer to soft light (you may need to fiddle with the opacity in the screen layer, mine is set at 69%).
Your layers pallette should look something like this:
and your icon like this:
.
Now, merge all your layers (Layers - Merge - Merge All(flatten) ).
Then we go to Adjust - Sharpness - High Pass Sharpen and make he settings the following then hit ok :
This is the step that I'm not sure will translate, if it doesnt try sharpening the image and duplicating it and setting it to soft light, that may work.
Now create a new raster layer and fill it with this blue:
( #041228) and set to exclusion at 100%.
Create another new raster layer and fill it with
(#f2d88a) and set it to Burn(colour burn in PS.. I think) at 28%.
Your icon should look like this now:
Another new layer(hey, I told you, I'm a complete and utter layout whore :p) filled with
(#f28ab6) set to burn at 51% opacity.
Take this light texture by
dirtyfootprints ,
paste in a new layer and set to screen at 100%.
Okay, now that looks like a fairly decent icon now, I know, but I'm not done.
On a new layer (yeah, yeah, hush up.) paste the following brush by
meleada (she is teh awesomeness, I love her forever. Sorry, random.)
set it to screen, 100% again.
Now we should look like
.
Just add the text now, I just used Georgia size 8pt all caps rotated 90 degrees for the More then just a, and Century Gothic size 16pt for Bookworm, all caps again. Both should be used with the sharp anti alias on.
and dun.. dun.. dun..
Fin.
