How to make this:
I started off with
this AMAZING texture by the one and only
gender. I am totally pimping her out, because her stuff is absolutely AMAZING and I use it all the time.
I wanted to make it a bit more contrast-y and grungy, so I put
this texture (by ???) and stuck it on Softlight at 100%.
Here’s the hard part. I am using layer groups to make things easier, and to make them look good. So all that occurs from now on is in one layer group.
I started off with the Polaroid mask layer. It originally had really messy edges, but I cleaned them up for you guys and put the whole thing on a black background. I took that and put it on screen to just the lighter part shows.
From there, I selected the middle of the Polaroid, the black part, using the magic wand tool. Then I expanded the selection, so there wouldn’t be gap. I think I expanded it by 2 or 3 pixels. In PSP8 it’s this: Selections -> Modify -> Expand. I don’t know if other programs have this function.
I kept that area selected, made a new layer (UNDER the Polaroid layer), then filled the selection with this:
(
) (#5A684E).
Don’t unselect anything just yet. Now, I made a new layer (over the color layer and UNDER the Polaroid layer) and filled it with this pattern:
(
) (by ??? tell me if you know! I think it’s by mrs. spock or something).
I set that layer to Multiply at 100%.
From here, I finally opened up my picture of
Brendon from Panic! At the Disco.
I tediously cut him out of the picture using the freehand selection tool set on Point to Point mode.
Once he was cut out, I resized the picture so it fit in the Polaroid and popped him into it on a new layer. This layer goes UNDER the Polaroid layer, as well.
I duplicated this layer and set it to Softlight at 100% to add some more contrast.
Here's another hard part. Deselect your area and paste this:
texture over the general area of the Polaroid’s center. (Make sure this layer is UNDER the Polaroid, but over the Softlight layer of Brendon)
Now, go back to the layer with the solid green, select the green, and then go back to the new layer with the texture.
Invert the selection and hit delete. Now, it will fit perfectly in the Polaroid. Set this layer to Multiply at 100%.
I went back and duplicated the layer with Brendon on it, dragged it up so it was above the texture on Multiply, desaturated it and set it to Softlight at 100%.
We are done with the first Polaroid, so this next layer does NOT go in the layer group; it goes above the layer group. Make a new layer and I put on a tape brush (from
teh_indy, I believe) on two of the corners of the Polaroid, in this color: #DFD5BD.
Now we are getting somewhere! It appears we have a lovely old photograph taped to out textures! YAY!
This next part will be in another layer group. If I haven’t lost you yet, then you should be good for the rest of this, because this is pretty much the same as putting Brendon in the Polaroid, except on a smaller scale.
So, this time, instead of using a Polaroid mask on screen, I used this Polaroid brush:
(by ???) in this color: #CCC1A3.
The layers that come next will stay below this, as with the last Polaroid.
I used the magic wand selection tool to select the empty space in the Polaroid and expanded the selection by a couple of pixels.
I made a new layer (make sure it’s UNDER the Polaroid) and filled the selection with this: (
) (#888A76).
Don’t deselect your selection yet. Then I made a new layer and filled the selection with this pattern: (
) (by the same person that made the other one) and set it to Multiply at 100%.
Now you deselect your selection.
I opened up my image of
Ryan from Panic! At the Disco and flipped it, then I cut him out using the Freehand selection tool on Point to Point mode.
Once he was cut out, I resized the image to fit into the Polaroid and pasted him in on a new layer.
Next, I took this texture:
(by ???)
and pasted it above Ryan.
Next, go back to the layer with the solid green color and use the magic wand to select the color. Invert the selection and go to the new layer with the texture and hit delete. As I said before, this makes it fit into the Polaroid.
Set this layer to Multiply at 100%.
Duplicate your layer with Ryan on it and drag it so it’s above the texture on Multiply. Desaturate it and set it to Softlight at 100%.
Yay! Done with another Polaroid! Now, no more layer groups.
Make a new layer above the layer group and put on more tape brushes by
teh_indy I decided there was too much empty space. So I made a new layer, under both of the layer group and added a few AMAZING brushes by the amazing
yumei_k in #1D1C1A. I used these brushes:
And another brush that I think was from the HolidaySuicide set from
here Unfortunately I don’t have the brush anymore, so I don’t have an image of it to give you.
Almost done. the last thing I did was take
this texture and past it on the top of all the other layers and set it to multiply at 100% to make things blend a bit better.
FINITO!
oh, one small warning, i dont want to see banners identical to this. please make it your own. use different textures, brushes, and people! :)
