Icon Tutorial: Harmony Kendall; for PSP7

Jul 01, 2006 11:44

My first time writing a tutorial, so yay. :D Be gentle. :P

How to go from this
to this
, in PSP7.

0.) First, I started with this picture of Harmony from Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel the series.

1.) I cropped it and resized it down to 100x100, then smoothed it out a tiny bit by going to Effects > Noise > Edge Preserving Smooth. Set it to 2, and click OK.

2.) The picture was a bit darker than I wanted, so I duplicated the base twice. The first one I set the opacity to Screen 55%, and the layer on top of that one was set to Soft Light 35%. Depending on how dark or light your original pic is, these settings might not be what you want. Fiddle around with them until you have something you like.

3.) Next, I took a texture by ? (sorry, I've forgotten ^^;) and pasted it on the top. Then I rotated it 90 degrees to the right and flipped it. Image > Rotate. Set to "Right" and "90" and click OK. Then go to Image > Flip. Set it to Screen 100%.

4.) Now I add a swirled texture by discordandnight. Set it to Soft Light 40%.

I know. Not much difference, but I liked it. XD

5.) Take this texture by firithel_icons, flip it, and set it to Soft Light 100%.

6.) Now take this gradient by ?, and mirror it (Image > Mirror). Paste it on the top and set it to Hard Light 100%.

7.) Now we're going to take the original version of that gradient again (the un-mirrored version) and paste it on the top, then set it to Hard Light 23%.

8.) Merge everything. Layers > Merge > Merge Visable.

9.) Create a new layer and fill it with the color #FCF3CE. Set it to Multiply 100%.

10.) Duplicate your base and drag it on top of your multiply layer. Set it to Burn 35%.

16.) Almost done! Next, I created a new layer on top, and added a heart brush by ?, in the color #D390AC. Normal 75% is the opacity.

17.) Lastly, I added text on a new layer, also in the color #D390AC. The font style was Georgia, regular, 4pt. The word I used was H A R M O N Y. I put it on a new layer so that I could mess around with the opacity if I wanted.

18.) And that's all! :) Of course, you can still add more to your icon if you feel like it's lacking something, but that's basically it. :)

19.) Merge everything and save it! NOW you're done.

I hope this was mildly helpful. Like I said, this was my first tutorial. If you know who some of the un-credited textures belong to, please let me know and I'll edit the post to put their names in there. :)

Have fun!
