Two tutorials:
Making
from
this in PS CS.
1. First, crop your base down to 100x100. Duplicate it twice, and set both layers to screen.
2. Add a layer of #060a31 set to Exclusion at 100%, a layer of #b5e5f9 set to Color Burn at 100% and a layer of #fde1fb set to Soft Light at 100%. Vary the percentages as needed depending on the image.
So far, your icon should look somewhat like this:
3. Stamp the layer (ctrl+shift+alt+e), and set it Color Burn.
4. Add a layer of #e4e0d2 set to Color Burn at 100%, and a layer of #eaeae6 set to Soft Light at 100%.
It should look a little bit like this:
5. Finally, stamp the layer again, desaturate it, and set it to Color Burn. I lowered the opacity on mine to about 23%, to lighten it up a little bit.

And going from
this to
in PS CS.
1. First, take your image and crop it down to 100x100, and position it however you'd like. Just remember that the polaroid frame is going to be in there when you're cropping.
2. Desaturate your image.
3. Take
this polaroid texture by
damnicons, and paste it onto your canvas, set to Screen. I rotated it, so the frames went horizontally, and filled in the bottom of the layer with white, since the focus of my icon is in the top corner.
4. I added
this light texture, also by
damnicons, shrunk it down to 100x100, and set it to lighten at 48%. It gives the image some color.
5. The next layer was the text. I wrote "we could be heroes". I used Violation, size 10, in black.
6. After the text, I used
this light texture by
trashnoise, and set it to Linear Dodge at 67%.
7. The text kind of disappeared here, so I duplicated it, moved it above that last layer, and set it at 10% opacity.
8. Last, I added
this by
elliptica, and set it to lighten at 62%.
