Tutorial #01

Jul 24, 2006 21:23

This is my first tutorial. Made in Photoshop CS, but it should be able to be translated into other programs.

Do not follow this tutorial exactly! The steps and settings I used are only meant to be guidelines. Play around with it and make it your own! :]

Start out with a black and white base. I'm using this image from foto_decadent. You can also use a colored image if you'd like, just desaturate it (Shift+Ctrl+U in PS). For the best efect, mess around with levels or contrast so that you have some blacks and whites, not just greys.

Step 1. Duplicate the layer and set it to Screen at 30%. You may not need this step, depending on your base.

Step 2. Paste this gradient into a new layer and set it to Exclusion at 100%.

Step 3. Paste this gradient into a new layer and set it to Color Burn at 100%.

Step 4. Paste this light texture from rough_draft___ into a new layer and set it to Screen at 100%.

Step 5. Paste this gradient into a new layer and set it to Soft Light at 28%.

Step 6. Paste this gradient into a new layer and set it to Multiply at 100%.

Step 7. Duplicate the base and bring it to the top. Set the new layer to Screen at 68%

Step 8. Paste this light texture by myrasis into a new layer. Edit brightness/contrast and erase the part around her face. (See my edited layer here.) Set this layer to Screen at 78%.

Step 9. Paste this light texture from rough_draft___ into a new layer and set the layer to Screen at 100%.

Step 10. Duplicate the base and bring it to the top. Set it to Overlay at 39%

Step 11. Duplicate the base again and bring it to the top. If you want, you can sharpen this layer one or two times. Set this layer to Soft Light at 25%

Step 12. Create a new layer and fill it with #F7F2E7. Set the layer to Multiply at 100%

Add a 1 px white border and you're done! You can view my layers here if you need help.
