Get the pretty colouring of this icon:

to

Using PS7.
There is Selective Color.

Please do not copy this word for word, vary it lots so it's more fun!

one Get your photo and crop it. I'll be using this one:

of Rachel McAdams.

two Duplicate the base. Go to Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation on the duplicate and set the saturation to +45. Set the layer to Screen (though you might have to lower the opacity in some cases, I left it on 100%).

three Make a new layer and fill it with #FFF568. Set this layer to Soft Light at 100%. This is because Selective Color works well on yellow.

four Selective Color layer:
Reds:
-100, +100, +100, +100
Yellows:
+57, +58, 0, +18
Greens:
+100, +100, +43, +100
Magentas:
+100, +100, -100, 0
Whites:
+100, +100, +14, +5

five Make a Color Balance layer:

Midtones:
-22, -15, +35

six Make a new fill layer and fill it with #737D1D at Soft Light, 50%

seven Duplicate the "Background copy" layer, which is step two. Set the opacity at 85% and drag it to the top.

eight Finally, make a Brightness/Contrast layer and set the Brightness to -10 and the Contrast to +5. You're done!
