Well, missblonde19 @ papworld wanted to learn photoshop (making siggies-headers-!).
So I just wanted to make some basic tutorials on photoshop.
The program I've used for theese tutorials is Photoshop CS2.
1) Cropping.
First of all, open the picture you want to work with.
Then you click on this tool that you see is marked with red color around it, it's called the cropping tool.
If you want to make an icon, you put the settings at 100x100 px. You write those settings in this box:
remember: ALWAYS have the last one set to 72, even if you're making a 700x500 graphic.
Now for the cropping: You've got the picture open; "draw" this square on the picture, how ever you want the cropping to be:
hit 'enter' or double click at the image when you've found that perfect cropping.
When cropping, I usually first duplicate the image before I acctually "draw" the cropping.
Why? Because otherwise it'll become a 'see through' layer just 1 px around the image like so:
(btw, sorry for my lousy pictures, @ the black line, the pictures ends, the gray is ps backround).
You can also rotate the cropping:
then the icon will turn up like this:
2) Putting textures on your image.
Well, this one is über easy!, Just pick a texture you want on your picture (peoplemachines has alot of nice ones).
Open it in a new window in Photoshop. Copy the picture (ctrl+a to select the whole image, then ctrl+c to copy the image). Paste it onto the image you've got open (ctrl+v), put the settings at multiply or screen/lighten- whatever looks best!
Example:

Should I explain more?
3) Blending.
So, there's alot of ways to blend images together. This is only one of them, check the memories for more ways to blend 2 (or more) pictures into 1.
I used 2 different pictures, and I wanted to blend them into 1 single picture, that is called a header (or siggie, whatever suits you best).
I opened my first image, that I wanted as "base picture" (this is the picture the header will acctually be on). Just leave that picture for a while.
Now I opened the second picture, I marked around Ashley with the Lasso tool:
(the lasso tool is marked with a red circle around it) if you don't have the same icon (lasso tool), right click (my option is the one in the middle):
Well, this is the Ashley image after I marked her with the lasso tool, remember: don't mark her really close, just do this quick.
Feather it, 10-20 px. (I feathered mine to 20px).
Copy the image (ctrl+c), paste it into your base picture. I moved the base picture quite alot to the left & the 2nd picture to the right so it would look good.
Well, now my header looks like this:
Not so flattering, let's fix that!
Click on the rubbergum (shortcut: E):
Now; delete the red around ashley.
I ended up with this:
Now I just flattened the image (ctrl+shift+e), then cropped the header into 500x300 px.
I added some coloring, brushes & text, and here's the finished result!
Hopefully, everyone gets this since I'm from Sweden I don't really know what everything is called in English, just ask if you've got any problems with this tutorial :)
Comment if you like theese tutorials :) I like feedback ;)
