Tutorial Numero Five

Going from

or
.
Using PSPx, love comments, love to see what you make, love to see you comment and credit if you take this.

Other icons made using a similar technique :
(yeah, I know I'm lazy, it's just the one.)

Step One// Starting with
I prep the image using Fade Correction and Smart Photo Fix. For details on these steps see any other of my tutorials.(sorry, I'm sick and lazy) After prepping my image I have this as a base
. This is actually a really important step. The image needs to be brightened up, and the colors need to be brought out. Which is why I use this step so often.

Step Two// Now, I make two duplicates of this base. I set the first to Screen at 100%, then I set the second to Soft Light at 40%, and I erased the glas background on this layer, and burned areas on her face to define them better.
This more washed out version of the base will absorb the color better.

Step Three// I'm going to set up a color layer grid below. PLAY WITH OPACITIES.

on OVERLAY at 50% to
.

on BURN at 25% to
.

on COLOR at 35% to
.

on SOFT LIGHT at 50% to
.

on OVERLAY at 40% to
.

Step Four// Now, duplicate the original (prepped) base and drag it to the top of your layers, Leave it at normal and increase the saturation (shift+h) to a point where it looks something like
and set it at 30%. Leaving the image looking like
.

Step Five// Make a new color balance layer. Settings depend on image, use the following as guidelines.

Shadows : -20 -17 -20

Midtones : 8 15 -17

Highlights : 45 -62 -10

Leaving the image looking like
.

Step Six// So, the coloring is done. For the flowers in the left hand corner I used the line tool to draw some really simple flowers.

and set them at normal at 85%. I still thought they stood out a bit too much, so I positioned them just under the color balance layer. And we're done.
.
:D. I hate being sick, I even had to leave work early. :c, how was everyone's christmas?
