Word of advice: The result won't be the same for every icon. If your base is quite yellow the result will be quite blue (as shown in one of the examples below). The result is also quite good for putting emphasis on colours in your base (as shown in the other sample down the bottom. See, his make-up is quite noticeable, as is his guitar neck). Please feel free to add other layers/effects, this tut was made as a guide, not a bible for which you must stick to at all times. So yeah, shall we get to it?
1.Crop your image do the necessary - sharpen, screen, softlight, whatever you usually do to your image (to my sxc Spencer I sharpened and duplicated the base once, setting to screen 70% opacity). You get:
2. New adjustment layer > hue/saturation > saturation +43%. You get:
3. New layer - #003663 - exclusion 50% opcatity. You get:
4. New layer - #85DFE2 - softlight 100% opacity. You get:
5. (for photoshop users) ctrl+shift+e > ctrl+j
(for other program users) merge all layers together, then duplicate your now base set the duplicated layer to "soft light" (which doesn't make that big of a difference, but his face wont seem so red with this step). You get:
6. 100% new layer - #6DCFF6 - colour burn 100% opacity. You get:
7. (for photoshop users) ctrl+shift+e > ctrl+j
(for other program users) merge all layers together, then duplicate your now base. Set the duplicated layer to "colourburn" 100% opacity. And you are done!
Other icons using same/similar technique:
Feel free ot friend my journal, i'll probly end up posting more tut's and icons there too!
