Third tut coming at you! ^^
Hello there everyone! Welcome to my third tutorial session! Wee! XD (Forgive the high-ness) Anyway, today, we'll be turning this icon:
into this:
Alright, let's get started! ^^
1.) The first step, is to, of course, grab your base by cropping it to 100 x 100. My base, in this case, (hehe, I rhymed XD) is Luke fon Fabre from the RPG game Tales of the Abyss. (NOTE: I didn't do anything with the base except Auto Contrast)
2.) Next, we duplicate the base, desaturate it and give it a kick. After desaturating, go to Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur and set the radius to 0.3. Put this layer to Soft Light at 100%.
3.) Add a our first floodfill layer, which is B7B38C and set this to Darken at 25% opacity.
4.) Add another floodfill layer, which is 0C0D26 and set this layer to Exclusion at 100%
5.) Another floodfill layer, which is D3FBE7 and set this layer to Color Burn at 100%.
6.) Okay, almost done with the floodfill layers! Make another, this time E6ABF7 and set this layer to Soft Light at 50%.
7.) Last layer! Yey! Make another one and floodfill this layer with AB9D72 at Overlay set to 100%.
8.) You can stop at that step if you want too but, knowing me, I won't stop until it has, (dun, dun dun!) a Color Balance layer! (XD) See the yin yang symbol next to the New Layer button? Click it and select Color Balance. Put the settings at:
Midtones: 70, -15, 33
Highlights: -14, -1, 12
Shadows: 40, -11, 3
Set that layer on Normal at 100%.
9.) Alright, almost done! Go to the same Adjustment layer and choose Hue/Saturation this time. We're only going to mess with the Saturation so set the Master saturation at 15.
10.) Duplicate your base and drag it to the top, putting a gaussian blur at 0.3 radius and set this on Soft Light at 100%.
11. Last step! Duplicate your exclusion layer and drag it all the way to the top, setting the opacity at 66%. Flatten image or merge them all and add your texts and brushes!
Finished Product:
Remember that not all steps and settings mesh together as well as it did with this icon. Feel free to mess with the opacities and experiment! You never know what might come up when you do! ^^ Hope you all liked it! Enjoy! Comments are also appriciated. ^^
Finsihed Luke icon can be used, with credit!
