Swirly Effect (Photoshop)

Today we will be making this:

This tutorial is for beginners, so if you have never used the pen tool now you can. =)

I hope this is okay! I have never written a tutorial before. If you have any questions please ask

And i would LOVE to see what you made with this tutorial! =D

1. pick an image you want. Preferably a picture of the whole body. It looks best that way.

2. make a new layer above your picture, this is where the stroke path will be

3. get your pen tool. The pen tool is right above the text tool

4. Make sure the pen tool is on the path option

5. Click the canvas once at the top of the image directly below it click again. you should have a line

6. Now click in the center of that line

7. now after clicking the center hold down the ctrl key and grab the middle point and drag it either left or right.

you can also hold down the ctrl key to move the other 2 points up and down until you are happy with your curve

8. now that you have your 1st curve click on the bottom point again and then after that click below as you did the first time. Then you make a middle point and ctrl the point the opposite direction of the first curve.

9. Now continue doing this until you are satisfied

(again: if you hold ctrl down while using the pen tool you can move the points around.
----------------------------------------
Now that we have our curve lets draw it in

10. Select your brush tool and set it on the soft round 6. Set the hardness to 100% (you can adjust this depending on what size you want the swirl. Select the color you want the swirl to be. I chose white.

11. Switch back to the pen tool. (make sure you have a new layer above the image layer) Right click on the path and click "stroke path"

12. A window will appear. set it to brush and click "simulate pressure.

13. This is what your image should look like

14. to make it more interesting i right clicked the layer with the stroke path on it and set the blending options to outer glow: normal 100% and i chose a blue color you can adjust the settings until you are satisfied

15.I duplicated the stroke layer and set the opacity to 20% And moved it over

16. Erase every other place that the swirl is over the image so it appears to be wrapping around the person

and were done! I then erased the background and we are done! (hope this was easy to follow)
