Hi everyone! The most recent post reminded me of a somewhat similar issue I have ( Read more... )

I'm the simplest one here, I just do them the way you already mentioned, the folder the textures are in being the title of the zip or something similar to that, then from there I just store about 200 unzipped folders in each folder of textures I have, usually kept in just # 001

So it's like Textures > #001 > Name here

Given how pretty your banners are I wish you'd give icon-making another shot~ ;P I have a large folder entitled Textures then inside I go by user name. But since banners are larger than icons, I have one folder specifically dedicated to larger sized textures (and un-creatively named Big Textures) and another called Light Textures since those are ever popular and it's easier to find the one you need when they're all bunched together. Those two I don't bother having any interior folders with usernames as I prefer to have them all out together so I can use the Thumbnails view to see them all. Makes crediting hard but that's what my massive credit post is for! X3;

The way I organize mine is Textures > maker's name. That way I know who made it. If I'm looking for a certain kind of texture, I can usually find it by memory (like "scratchy texture: so-and-so made some," etc). But then again I don't have a ton of textures on my computer.

You might also consider deleting some textures you don't think you'll use. I have to do some of that. ;0

There are some other good ideas in these comments...I'll have to think about trying those, too.

Actually, if anything, you're probably a lot more organised than I am.

I don't organise at all. Half my textures, I have to actually guess where they come from, since last year/year ago, I never renamed my texture folders (I do now, so all the new textures I have, I know who to credit) so I have an insane amount of textures I don't know who they belong to :(

I think _puchula_'s idea is pretty good, that way...you'd just have to move folders around, in a sense x_x

I have a large folder labeled textures. In that I have subfolders labeled small colored textures, large colored textures, black and white textures, gradient-style textures. Then in each of the subfolders, I have the icon maker's folders, so that I can still credit. I have the previews on, and I've been in the majority of the folders enough times that I sort of remember what's in each folder by looking at the maker's name and/or the preview thumbnails on the folder, but I still tend to find myself using the same ones over and over because I don't really remember it all. I might end up splitting the subdirectories even further. I liked the suggestion above of 'busy' ones vs. not and/or by color. I'll have to look at them all and see what categories they lend themselves to. Maybe... (It'll probably end up being too much effort! *grin*)
