Fake Cuts?

Hi there, iconchat! I'm really curious about what other iconists' opinions are on fake cuts. I don't usually do fake cuts when I cross-post, I just do regular cuts. But then I looked at my own icon journal, and I realized that I have minimal comments there, because people comment on the actual entries (and for good reason). But my journal isn't f-locked ( Read more... )

I don't believe in fake cuts. I believe in links. I always post all my icons at my icon journal, then link to that post in communities. I also turn off comments on the posts to those communities so that all my comments are in one place.

I think fake-cuts are better for organisation; all the comments are in one place. It also makes finding other icons of mine easier; you're already in my icon-journal, you can see the entry tags on the page, etc.

I concur! ;o Also it saves on bandwidth because icons are loading one place and not several to a dozen places at once.

I do the same as irdamajere because it's easier to contain them. That way I know what people like and I don't have to go to ten different places to find out.

To me a community is there for sharing and advertising your work. Not as a repository for it. That is what my icon journal is.

As for 'fake' cuts (to me all cuts - fake or not - are just links). I'm not sure why there is a big hullabaloo over them unless they point to a locked journal. I'm not particular - only on the obvious (don't say you made what I made) - so fake cuts don't bother me in the least. Unless I can't access the journal because it's f-locked or deleted. Then I get annoyed.

People probably don't know you have an icon journal if you keep spreading your icons between all of the communities you belong to. That's probably why you don't get very many comments there and are getting all of your comments where you post stuff with the real cut. Fake cuts that send the person straight to your icon journal will keep all of your comments in one place. It's easier to track who's commenting and what they're commenting on that way. You're not running around to several communities trying to find out which set of icons is getting what kind of a response. It also allows everyone you're targeting to be able to see all of the work you put up each time you icon. It's a better way to keep track of what people are taking each time you icon stuff ( ... )

Thank you all so much! I'm going to start linking to my journal now-I never realized just how much more sense it makes, lol. Your comments were all really interesting and helpful, thank you!
