Mine's unlocked. I host my 100-icon challenge tables over there, and those have to be unlocked, as usually per the rules of the comm, so I just figure I'll keep it unlocked so as not to forget to unlock those posts later.
Besides, the more hoops people have to jump through to see icons, layouts and so forth the less likely they are to bother with the whole process. People as a general rule are terribly lazy.
The main pro of having a members-only community is that you have more control over who has access to your graphics. If someone breaks a rule or is a hotlinker or some other offense, you can easily revoke their membership and ban them. If your journal were public, you could only ban them (from commenting) but they could continue to access your graphics. So its more of a security measure than an ego-boost, for most.
