deals with selective colouring & the like, therefore only translatable to other versions of Photoshop.

if you're a photoship virgin, I don't recommend this tutorial.



& here we go..

original picture:



1) Crop your image to 100 x 100 pixels.

2) Just to make it a bit softer...
Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur.
Radius: 0.3px.

3) Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Curves.
RGB:
Input= 62
Output= 88

4) Add another Curves layer.
RGB:
Input= 100
Output= 138

5) Layer > New Adj. Layer > Selective Colouring.

REDS
Cyan: -100
Magenta: +9
Yellow: -100

YELLOWS
Cyan: -100
Yellow: -26

NEUTRALS
Cyan: +15
Magenta: -32
Yellow: -54

6) Add another Selective Colouring Layer.

REDS
Cyan: -100
Magenta: +100
Yellow: +100

YELLOWS
Yellow: +7

CYANS
Cyan: +94

NEUTRALS
Cyan: +17
Magenta: +16
Yellow: +26

7) Add another Selective Colouring Layer.

REDS
Yellow: +100

YELLOWS
Yellow: +100

CYANS
Cyan: +100
Magenta: +100
Yellow: -100

BLUES
Cyan: +100
Magenta: -100
Yellow: -100

NEUTRALS
Cyan: +2
Magenta: +4
Yellow: +14

8) Layer > New Adj. Layer > Colour Balance.
Colour Levels: +28 / 0 / -18

9) Layer > New Adj. Layer > Hue/Saturation.
Saturation = +15

10) Layer > New Adj. Layer > Brightness/Contrast.
Contrast = +10

11) Layer > New Adj. Layer > Levels.

Input Levels: 0 / 0.65 / 255

12) Flatten Image [Layer > Flatten Image].

13) Ctrl + A / Ctrl + C / Ctrl + V.

14) Radial Blur [Filter > Blur > Radial Blur].
Amount: 10

15) Erase as much as you want, using a circular brush.

16) Add a grungy texture [the one I used made by fangirls_inc, I believe.]
& set the layer to Multiply, 75%.

17) Flatten again.

*If you want the icon to be brighter, just take out the grunge texture & your icon will be much lighter. I just added the texture because I liked it.
This is what it looks like without the grunge texture:


& I also made a userinfo banner with the same picture & colouring.


& we’re done!
