Six months ago, Facebook was thriving! Virginia Heffernan wrote a whole article about it. What a difference a few months make. Now Facebook is nearly dead according to Ms. Heffernan, citing the same source for her original article.

An article about why some people are choosing to leave Facebook is valid. An article about how some people leaving Facebook must mean that Facebook is completely dead, despite overwhelming numbers to the contrary is silly. I'm not sure how you can say a site that attracted 87 million visitors in the US alone is clearly on its way out with a straight face.

In general, I don't share your negative view of the NY Times, but I will agree that this story was a waste of cyberspace.

I love your NY Times Watch. Virginia Heffernan is an epic fail.

I don't understand how the writer simply quotes friends. Wouldn't you try to get someone with a voice of authority on the subject? It would be fine if one of her friends was someone who analyzed media/marketing trends for a living, but this doesn't seem to be the case.
