I'm starting to get a little tired of seeing the phrase sine qua non (without which not) on every other Adama/Roslin icon. Yeah, I know. It's really sweet that he can't live without her to point where Battlestar Galactica dedicated an entire episode to the subject but it's starting to lose it's meaning. And it's not just that everyone has made an ( Read more... )

Well. Unlike that texture it actually works very well for this pairing. As defined by BSG sine qua non is 'without which not' and the characters go on to discuss the singular element in peoples lives that, if they no longer have it, makes life unbearable. And Laura Roslin is the one thing Adama kinda needs to live. So it's sweet. But it's getting old!

It IS losing its meaning! I am so pissed at that. It's something that's sweet, and precious, and it's being put on every fucking thing under the sun. STOP IT, DAMMIT. I only did it once, and then stopped. BECAUSE IT'S NOT AS POWERFUL ANYMORE.

I think I've only ever seen one sine qua non icon, but maybe I'm not looking in the right places. I'm a Latin geek anyway, so I think it's cool regardless. :D

While we're at it can we stop cross posting icons to battlestar_blog?

OMG YES. THIS.

I actually got asked to start posting my stuff over there by one of the moderators a while back. ROFL.

And totally agree about "sine qua non". It's such a lovely saying with such lovely meaning, but so were a lot of things that are now overused.
