What's up with all the textures?

I'm not hating on textures for real. But it seems like everyone has stopped making brushes and started making textures. I don't get it myself. They are just cropped pics, anyone could do that themselves.

*edit*Sorry if I seem to have insulted texture makers. I'm just going on what I've seen posted as textures

Well, dear. Textures generally are not just cropped pictures, most of us work on our textures for hours to make something both useful and pretty.

As someone who makes textures and brushes I agree with the people above, what you're referring to are not textures.
The general direction of making icons in the last two years is leaning towards clean and simple icons, so I think there's simply no big demand for brushes.

I just have to say, I am so fucking over brush use. Textures and stock images (and shapes - which I hardly ever see on LJ) are just so much more flexible to work with. Then again, I never use anything as small as 100 pixels as a resource. I need way more space to bounce around in.
