From
 to
 or
 in PSP X.

1. Open your base, crop & sharpen as you'd like.

2. To brighten the base a bit we'll add a new curves layer [layers > new adjustment layer > curves] with the following settings:
RGB
Point One
I: 47 O: 70
Point Two
I: 55 O: 92
Point 3
I: 167 O: 176

3. Next, to bring out more red in the picture we'll make a new color balance layer [layers > new adjustment layer > color balance] with the following settings:
Midtones
100, 0, 0

4. Now to balance out the red, add a channel mixer layer [layers > new adjustment layer > channel mixer] with the following settings:
Output Channel: Red
80, -20, 15, 3

5. Duplicate your base and drag it to the top. Set it to multiply with an opacity of 50.

6. Now it's a little dark so we'll add a brightness/contrast layer [layers > new adjustment layer > brightness/contrast] with the following settings:
Brightness: 30

7. To add a little bit more color make a new hue/saturation/lightness layer [layers > new adjustment layer> hue/saturation/lightness] with the following settings:
master: 20
yellows: -30

8. Make another curves layer with the following settings:
RGB
Point One
I: 61 O: 64

9. Brighten it up some more with a brightness/contrast layer, and set brightness to 15.

OPTIONAL:
10. To give your icon some depth, merge all layers and duplicate your base. Set it to soft light.

And you're finished! :) Feedback is appreciated [did you like it? any parts that confused you?] and I'd love to see what you've come up with.
