Gradients, 'mood', transparency, brushes, eraser (PS 7)

Here's
a tutorial for making an icon. (Duh...) I chose to do one that's got nothing
to do with a celebrity, musician and/or movie, but rather something that is
more of a 'mood-icon', if such a thing exists... You can use whatever subject
you want, this is just to show you a few techniques.

All
right. We'll be going from ( this: )

brushes, filters, ps, gradients

I just ran across this tutorial and am positively thrilled. The icon I made using this tute isn't very good, but I learned a lot, especially with the angled strokes (omg, it looks so clean!)

However, I'd just like to note that .png is almost universally working, though not always at 100%; see information about it here :)

I'm very happy to hear this tutorial helped you! And I ♥ angled strokes, I do... ;-)

Thanks for the link, too. Seems like things are getting better. However, until full PNG support is universal, I'll still feel hesitant about saving graphics like that. Not so much the 'usual stuff', but anything with transparency.
IE should really hurry up already...

Thanks for such a beautiful tutorial! ^_^ I changed a few things as I made it, and did a few steps slightly differently-- here's the icon:

LJ has not been sending me comment notifications, hence the late response.
Thank you very much for taking the time to comment. Always good to hear a tutorial was useful to someone!
As far as 'doing things differently' goes: Huzzah! ;-)
It's all about making it your own and it looks like you succeeded in that beautifully!
Thanks again!

Hi lanitha. I saved your tutorial as a link and today I came back to it. I was going through it but there's a link that doesn't work anymore. It's about the blending modes. See, I'm in Southamerica and my Photoshop is in Spanish so it's wayyy too difficult to look for that and pretty much guess! I would really appreciate it if you could help me with that. I need to learn about blending modes. Oh, and look at the avi, that's was thanks to this. Take care.

Hi there! You're right about the broken link. I've been redoing my website and haven't put this tutorial back up yet. :(
I will try and put it back up tomorrow @ a temporary spot, so you can view it. I'll send you a link to it as soon as possible. Pardon the inconvenience!
