have you made sure that you put the settings for a GIF. On my tutorial make sure the settings to the right are the same.

Oh hey, yeah your tutorial was ok - with your green areas. I was having problems with others' templates that are all white, with the cutout areas in thin black lines. Those didn't work the same way as yours. But I found another tutorial since and I'll try that.
