Sleeping in his condition was hard, almost impossible. Kai once again tried to find a comfortable position, putting pillows everywhere possible and hoping that the pain running all the way his spine will soften.
He didn’t want to go to hospital, that was the least thing he wanted now they’ve just debuted. Honestly he didn’t want to do anything about it, maybe because there really wasn’t anything he could do to help himself but he wished the pain would go away and everything to be back to normal. Kai, the dancing machine, would show the best on stage and Jongin, the boy in pain, would go away.
Dreams he thought as he sat up on his bed and rubbed his eyes. Just as usual he was wide awake by the pain. The time was once again 3 a.m and his roommate was once again cutely sleeping on the bed next to him. His quiet snoring that was filling the room made Jongin smile for a second but then again a wave of pain hit him.
With one hand he covered his mouth - trying to prevent himself from screaming away his pain, and the other hand was squeezing his blanket, as hard as possible. When the pain softened for a while, a tear ran down his cheek, then another one and another and then many more until he wasn’t quietly sobbing in his hands.
“Jongin,” he heard a sleepy voice calling him but no answer was given. Then again “Jongin-ah, are okay?”, he started crying a bit louder as he heard his own name.
Jongin - the boy in pain. The boy that needs help yet doesn’t let anyone see him in this condition. With one exclusion - Kyungsoo. His roommate, his soulmate - his best friend.
Kyungsoo was the only person Jongin trusted, the person he could tell his secrets to. Even before they had debuted - they would always go to eat together, walk together sometimes even cry together, when the pain was too much to be held inside. They would quietly cry while holding each other. These hugs, these moments, they made Jongin strong, they gave him hope - Kyungsoo gave him hope. Kyungsoo was the person always next to him. Even when the incident happened - Kyungsoo was the first one who came to him and helped him.
He went back to reality when he felt Kyungsoo positioning himself next to him. After a short yawn Kyungsoo spoke in rusty voice “Does the back hurt again?” Jongin could only nod. A warm arm started caressing his back. The pain was still there but somehow that made fade away a little. After a while Kyungsoo slowly put his head on Jongin’s shoulder and that made him feel safe. Kyungsoo made him feel calm and safe. He didn’t think he’ll ever feel that way. After he left his friends, his family, his girlfriend, happiness was impossible. At least in his mind.
Kyungsoo had his eyes closed but as soon as he felt Jongin’s arm on his leg he opened them and looked at the boy next to him.
Jongin didn’t really have an appropriate reason why he did it but he really hoped Kyungsoo wouldn’t get mad at him for doing it. After a while just looking at each other, there were obvious smiles on both of the boys’ faces. Jongin wasn’t sure if Kyungsoo looked down in embarrassment or he was just feeling shy but he wanted Kyungsoo to look up so he could see his perfect features again, so he gently squeezed his leg. And that worked, Kyungsoo looked at Jongin again with a smile even bigger than before.
That smile of his was the best thing in the world, well at least in Jongin’s world. And those big warmy brown eyes that looked as if they were sparkling in the dark room. And his lips - those perfect big lips, they looked as they were begging Jongin to kiss them. And then he went for it. Jongin slowly shortened the distance between them but just few inches of Kyungsoo’s face he stopped. He stopped and looked at his eyes, then again at his lips. He hesitated, he didn’t know what Kyungsoo felt towards him and if this will ruin their friendship or if they will even talk to each other or if he’s good enough...
It felt like his brain stopped working when Kyungsoo crushed their lips together. Suddenly breathing became a thing Jongin forgot to do. And his heart was beating so fast he though it will jump out of his chest. He never thought kissing someone could make him feel this way. He had done it plenty of times with his ex but nothing felt the same. Maybe it’s because i didn’t really love her he thought. That’s right.
“I love you” Jongin said panting, after he broke the kiss. Kyungsoo looked at him, his eyes still sparkling as if he was about to cry. Kyungsoo then hugged him, face buried in his chest.
“I love you too. I love you so much but i hate you,”
Jongin’s eyes shot wide open, he didn’t understand that last sentence.
“I hate it how stubborn you are and how you refuse going to a hospital. And i only sit and watch you suffer because there’s nothing else i can do.”
Jongin could barely hear the last words because Kyungsoo’s crying. He felt horrible for hurting the person he loves, that was exactly the opposite he wanted to do. At that moment he hated himself for being and idiot and hurting Kyungsoo and for being so awkward, he didn’t even know how to make him stop crying, how to make him smile again. Suddenly inviting him to sleep together was a good idea. Kyungsoo only nodded in agreement and they laid on Kai’s bed, still holding each other tightly.
“Promise me,” Kyungsoo said “promise me you’ll get better.”
“I’m already better, because you’re with me.”
After that they feel asleep.
The sun hadn’t shown yet when Kai’s phone rang. He took his phone from the bedside table as quick as possible, he didn’t want to wake this sleeping beauty next to him.
“Drink your pain killers”
Kai then realised the pain was gone. This night after Kyungsoo had joined him in bed he slept peacefully. Kai kissed Kyungsoo’s forehead and hugged him.
“As long as i have him, i don’t need anything else.“
