Apparently this is now a tradition?

1. What did you do in 2008 that you'd never done before?
Pull two consecutive all-nighters. Have a nervous breakdown (unrelated to the all-nighters)? Also. Um. I'm not very exciting, okay.

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I think my only NYR was "write moar", in which case, yes, I did! I feel like I'll just repeat that one for the coming year, since it worked out so well.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
My ex-babysitter and my mom's best friend's daughter (who incidentally also used to babysit for me!)

4. Did anyone close to you die?
No, thank God.

5. What countries did you visit?
Canada, again. Victoria this time.

6. What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008?
A work ethic, muscle tone, possibly a boyfriend.

7. What date from 2008 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
I don't remember dates!

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
That I've kept going.

9. What was your biggest failure?
Not being more adventurous.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
I'm assuming we're talking physical illness here, so, yeah, but I really don't get sick all that often. I think most of the time it is brought on by stress, anyway. My GI problems were like 90% better than they were last year, though! As for injury...I walk into things a lot, periodically smack myself without meaning to, and a few days ago punched myself in the nose by accident. So.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
The Wii my dad and I jointly got my mom for her birthday!

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
My friends, my family, Barack and Michelle Obama, AANG. :D

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
There are so many people whose actions are stupid, ignorant, and inconsiderate in the world, and the fact that I feel I could name more of these than those worthy of celebration just makes me sad.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Books, comics, food, tea.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Any and all concerts attended, illadates, superheroes, awesome ladies, Japanese Art class and all related work and field trips, Hell Week, May Day, orgasm cake, Avatar, beautiful stories artfully told, feeling passionate about my area of study again, GETTING MY GODDAMN INTERNSHIP. :D

16. What song(s) will always remind you of 2008?
Let's stick to good songs (because I don't feel like listing every terrible song on the AE playlist.) For the summer: the entirety of We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things. by Jason Mraz.

All of Challengers by The New Pornographers, like you wouldn't believe. Ditto Neon Bible by The Arcade Fire and The Crane Wife by The Decemberists.

Heh.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? Sadder.
ii. thinner or fatter? Thinner, apparently. Don't know how that happened.
iii. richer or poorer? Richer. Gainful employment + miserly tendencies = win?

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Studying and working hard on academics. Taking chances. Writing. Reading.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Second-guessing myself, worrying what other people think of me, comparing myself to others, setting unrealistic goals, worrying and worrying and worrying.

20. How will you be spending did you spend Christmas?
I volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House with my family and then we went to Chinatown for lunch. And then I came home and...played the Wii some more?!

Sarah Palin! :)

26. What was the best book you read?
The Road, Howl's Moving Castle, Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
The New Pornographers, by far. It took me awhile, but my love is strong and true!

28. What did you want and get?
A new iPod, tickets to NYCC, a job, passing grades (probably), stronger relationships with many of the people I care about, a pretty extreme haircut, a certain new president.

29. What did you want and not get?
A little more mental stability would have been peachy!

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
That I've seen this year which came out earlier: In the Mood for Love, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, The Philadelphia Story, Tokyo Godfathers, Castle in the Sky, Kill Bill, Hard Candy. That came out this year: IRON MAN and Wall-E.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
My favorite frosh: chaos_harmony, svz_insanity, and discord_harmony, all my new Avatard friends, Kathryn's cat.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2008:
Don't take yourself so seriously and things will work out so much better than they would otherwise. Being true to yourself and doing what makes you happy is more important than what other people think. Pants are an illusion, and so is death.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
Are the details in the fabric
Are the things that make you panic
Are your thoughts results of static cling?

Are the things that make you blow
Hell, no reason, go on and scream
If you're shocked it's just the fault
Of faulty manufacturing.

Everything will be fine
Everything in no time at all
Everything

Hold your own
Know your name
Go your own way.
- Details in the Fabric, Jason Mraz

Now it is time for moar Young Avengers. (Why won't my friends go to the comic book store with me?! I had to go while I was out with my mom. ;_;). My OTP senses are tingling, guys. They are tingling SO HARD.

And in case you missed it...there's, um, Digimon fic up at treeoftales. I know. I know. :/
