Character Information

General
Canon Source: Kuroshitsuji
Canon Format: Manga
Character's Name: Ronald Knox (or Ronnie, if you're cute.)
Character's Age: Hard to put an age on a Death God as they most commonly age up to 1000yrs and beyond. But he looks around the early 20's
Conditional: If your character is 13 years of age or under, please clarify how they will be played. N/A

What form will your character's NV take?
His wrist watch. One of the ladies he is charming, comments that its a strange looking watch anyway's, so why not make it a little stranger? Ronald will simply push a button on the side, and will be able to see and send holograms, or simply just hear the person communicating with him. Kind of like a mix between 007's watch and the whole 'Help me Obi Wan' thing going on. Also, its probable that Ronald would forget to carry his NV around, seeing as he always rushes at the last moment, this way, he'll always have it on him.

Abilities
Character's Canon Abilities:
First most, and foremost, Ronald is a God Of Death. However, in this particular canon, the duties of a Death God are more, modernised, if you like. *(see history section, for a full run down on the job description of a Death God). As a Death God, Ronald is granted a certain few abilities unique to the job, such as soul reaping.

Soul reaping is exactly what its title sounds like, it is the collection of the souls near death and bordering the line between the world of the living and the after life, or from the actual dead. This is carried out in the same proper standards of conduct, as say, debt collecting. Death Gods each have access to books which appear to have nothing scribed on the front of them, yet inside, can be found the names of each and every soul they are to collect, a Death Gods will use this book first, to confirm that the soul they are about to reap, is in fact the soul about to expire. After it has been determined that they have the right soul, the Death God then proceeds with the reaping, this is where it gets interesting.

To reap the soul, first the Death God must cut the host of said soul with their Death Scythe. Once blood has touched the blade(s) of the death scythe, the hosts cinematic recording spills from the body to be watched in the form of a cinema reel. A cinematic record, is, basically, a collection of that particular souls past and present experiences, Death Gods watch this to determine what judgement they shall pass on the soul, such as, if they should either be sent to hell, or heaven.

Another ability Ronald has, is to fight with or without use of his death scythe. I say this is an ability for the reason that Ronald is seen to be engaging in combat with the famous Demon butler, Sebastian Michaelis. Ronald is seen to preform not only fast gymnastic ability and reaction time, but also fights cunningly enough to show self preservation, as once the fight comes to a stand still, it is shown that Ronald is flawless, without a mark on him, and the Demon that never seems to fail, is left with a rather nice slice to his cheek from Ronald's hidden weapon. Ronald also shows how fast he is in defending himself, while disabling his opponent, by using his death scythe not only to block, but destroy Sebastian's weapons.

Let it not be said, that talk is cheap, for Ronald has a natural ability portraying something know as 'The gift of the gab.' This slang for having a knack of conversation, the ability to talk readily, glibly, convincingly and with great eloquence or skill at flattery, is practically Ronald's birthright. Complimenting his friendly and flawless interpersonal skills, Ronald is able to pretty much, get away with breaking most of the Death God dispatch society's rules, or use this gift of sweet talking, to get what he wants. Such as shown when he is explaining how he was able to chat up, one of the female workers of the dispatch weapons units, flirting with her to convince her in upgrading his death scythe into the custom style it currently is.

Last but not least, we can not forget to mention Ronald's uncanny ability to remain cool and calm. He is shown in every scene he is part of, to not only seem to be relaxed, but even has the time to joke or comfort others. As an example, I mentioned above, such as when he's fighting the Demon butler, Ronald had a smirk on his face, is never seen to break into a sweat and passed a joking comment about the Demon's Master and even prattles on while being attacked. Times after fighting also, where as his superiors might frown and complain, Ronald has been known to admire their strength and style.

Conditional: If your character has no superhuman canon abilities, what dormant ability will you give them? N/A

Weapons:
Ronald has two weapons that we've seen so far. One is his customized death scythe and the other is a hand knife.
The death scythe is a must have for every Death God, just try picturing the Grim Reaper, with his dark and ominous scythe? Only, swap the massive blade, with a lawnmower... As a fact, it seems that all the Death Gods we've seen so far, all seem to have a scythe that resembled some form of gardening tool. Ronald's lawnmower is what he uses to reap souls with as well as fighting with, travelling on from time to time and as a means of defence from on coming attacks. One of the reasons his death scythe was customized was that, by having a larger weapon, he could take out more than one soul at a time, its all about speed, being fast to get on with the job, leaving more time to party. His second weapon is one that appears to be a pretty normal knife, its more of the fact that Ronald feels the need to have such a weapon on his person... you have to wonder, does he keep the knife because his death scythe is large and heavy, thus being a swift little means of offence? or being the kind of character he is, is it simply because he thinks it looks cool? (I personally think its both.)

History/Personality/Plans/etc.
Character History:
❝Is there something strange, in your neighbourhood. Who ya gonna call!? . . . . . The Death God Dispatch Society!❞
The Death God Dispatch Society, that's the place Ronald is from. It is a perfectly organized and business driven organization. Inside it is very much a mix of office meets library. Clinical, tidy and minimalistic, everything has its place as is in order. This is the headquarters of all afterlife activity. Someone dies? is about to die? or is killing people when its not their time to die?  maybe there is a Demon or ghost on the loose? it all comes through and is recorded here. Of course, this means that Death Gods (Despite what they appear to look like) have been around since the dawn of age, the gate keepers if you like, the ferrymen to the afterlife, and each Death God dispatch unit heed to a law of conduct, the foundations of their work.

Death Gods are very strict on their rules and discipline, however... Ronald always seems to get away with breaking the odd rule here and there. It is a Death Gods duty, to keep watch over the scheduled deaths and to foresee the collection of souls. It is important that a Death God is always on his guard, should a Demon happen to snatch up and devour souls for themselves. This would leave the death books unbalanced. Should such an incident as this ever occur, it is a Death Gods job to scrutinize the numbers, the paperwork and the evidence to find out where it just doesn't match up. The next protocol is to start an investigation, or in Ronald's words, overtime.

Obeying the rules and finding out who are breaking them is pretty much their part played in this canon.The rules to which each Death God must abide to are as follows;
  1. Death Gods must wear glasses
  2. Death Gods must take care of their death scythe
  3. All sundry expenses must be settled at the end of the month
  4. If you meet someone handsome, then you can consider yourself remunerated
  5. Death Gods must work coldly, without a smile
Ronald has is own rule, which he adds to the list, which happens to be; Once work is over..PARTY!  Ronald is a fairly young Death God compared to some of the others, we know this because, he refers to them as his superiors. A link has been provided here  to a synopsis of his canon history events, up until the point of which I am taking him from.

Point in Canon:
I will be taking Ronald, fresh from one of the latest scenes around Chapter 50/52. Having been sent out on a mission, aboard a cruise ship, investigating a doctor, who claims he has found a way in which to raise the dead from their graves, and give them life once more. Typically, Ronald is late as he's seen boarding the ship, just as its setting off. Of course, while on board, Ronald is spending his time in the bar, seen to be charming a table full of young pretty ladies, this all happening while the resurrection is about to take part. This is when Ronald is seen, looking at his watch, grabbing his coat and making his way towards the event.

I think this would be a good place to take Ronald from, as it would be easy to link up with him arriving into the port, as I can show  in the third person example below.

Conditional: Brief summary of previous RP history: N/A

Character Personality:
Ronald is portrayed as an all round, laid back kind of guy. You can see this resonate from him at pretty much any time. The way in which he talks slang, rather than the prim and proper ways his superiors do, shortening his words or blending them together such as; c'mon or whatcha thinkin'?  Its the young and fresh side of him coming through in the way he talks. The same could be said about his attire. It clearly states in the Death God rules, something about their uniform, they must always look at their best and wear glasses, Ronald wears a size too big in both glasses and trousers, but then again, Ronald is always looking sharp, its kind of built into his DNA to look great.

Though to stand out a little and make sure he's the best dressed, Ronald normal has the top two buttons to his dress shirt, unfastened, and the knot in his tie is a little lower than the other Death Gods. Also, instead of the traditional black polished shoes, Ronald will only be seen in the classic ebony and ivory of the Oxford shoe. He also seems to be like Grell, in the fact that he has changed his hair a different colour, other than the normal black everyone else has. I say this because, you can see the underside of his hair to be black, as if his roots have been left to grow in. We know Shinigami have the power to glamour themselves, as Grell is seen to use a glamour on his own hair. All in all, his clothes and style amplify the fact that he's still young, laid back and trying to stand out.

One thing about Ronald that seems to stick out, is his ability to always arrive five minutes late. Another of the Death God rules that he gets away with breaking, punctuality is a key factor in their work, so the fact that Ronald is always showing up just in the nick of time, is a worry. Though, in saying all that, he does make up for being late by then proceeding to get the job done as fast as he possibly can. He states in the manga that he would rather party than do overtime, so you would think he would wish to be punctual towards work, to assure that he finishes on clocking out time?

Staying on the topic of parties, its safe to say that Ronald is quite the party animal. He's always trying to finish work early so that he may attend these events he's constantly going on about, stating while talking to his work mates that he's at that age, where he just wants to be rowdy. This happy go lucky attitude he shows off most of the time could  go a little deeper however. It seems as if Ronald is really trying his hardest to find his place, within the Death God division he belongs to, as well as in the world in general. Trying to fit in can be hard, unless you have the right personality to adjust, this is something he does well. Trying to keep all those around him happy and trying to make everyone like him to a certain degree. Its hard work trying to please all of the people, all of the time you know, so maybe that's another excuse for Ronnie to party hard when he does party.

It can't be said, that the young Death God is not a hard worker, putting extra effort in when out on missions, like the canon point I am taking him from, once Ronald has investigated the accusation of souls being brought back into the land of the living, his job is pretty much done, all that is left, is to report his findings and hand it in to his boss... but no, Ronald, upon finding out there is a Demon on board the boat, decides its his responsibility to send him packing, after all, he's trying to impress the heads of his department. Sure that's more hard work for him, but it also looks good for him career wise too.

I can safely say, that there is no creepy bad touching, pedo bear, pants sniffing, closet perverts here! Sure, he might flirt a little- ok, a lot, but he truly is interested in the people he talks to. Ronald seems to be genuine, but he's mostly interested in himself and impressing his fellow Death Gods. If he asks you how are you getting home tonight? Its not because he's looking for an invitation to come in for a night cap (although I'm sure he'd be flattered at the offer.) ,no, Ronald will be wanting to make sure you get home safe and sound.(If you end up dead when you're not suppose to, its more work for him see.)

Again, even thought he's a bit of a party animal, Ronald is probably the most openly respectful member of his division. He never has a bad word to say, even with his annoyance for Demons, it never goes any farther then him being a bit curious about why they do, what they do- okay, maybe he shows some annoyance to them, but that's because in Ronald's mind, Demons equal overtime. No matter how someone is treated by someone else, Ronald never lets anyone's judgement cloud his view of them, he shows this in the manga, by even calling Grell his respectful elder, and putting up with Grell constantly talking about Sebastian.

He shows a load of patience all in all. Under the surface of it all, if you take the time into looking as to why Ronald is the way he is, you'll see that he's deep down, just trying to find his way, fit in and make something of himself. With such big influences in his career, such as Grell, the boisterous, confusing, violent superior and William, the perfectionist, cold and feared boss, it wouldn't be surprising to learn, that Ronald is in fact, a very stressed young man. He parties so hard because he deserves to after all the work he puts in. Coming up with a catchphrase to please Grell, going on long missions to show his dedication with William. Its safe to say, Ronald has all the under laying foundations of either becoming a great Death God or eventually snapping from the pressure he puts himself under.

And last but not least, Ronald is an up straight ladies man. There is always a scene with him either surrounded by a handful of ladies, or telling stories of his activities with regards to the fairer sex. Always clean and tasteful of course. He was able to swoon a female in the weapons department into customizing his death scythe after all, with nothing more than his good looks and charm.

I feel that before I finish, I should at least touch on the subject surrounding the 'what if's' to do with Ronald's personality you might ask. What if, Ronald really is just a cold, nasty Death God? all we have seen of him so far, is what I've mentioned above, but this is Kuroshitsuji after all, not everyone is as nice as they seem. He IS a ladies man, but does he not just simply use them? manipulate them to get what he wants? All this cheerfulness, could it not simply be a surface cover for something far more colder? His weapon, its fast, harsh and cruel, he never wastes time, Ronald is fast at killing, no time wasting... at the end of the day, he's not a human, so this nice friendly image he has painted perfectly for us to see... it could so easily be a glamour. His eye is, after all, on his kill at the end of the day.

*(I would like to add, that if my speculations become actual canon, I have no issues with canon reviewing and updating. Others who know this canon, know that nothing always as it seems.)

Conditional: Personality development in previous game: N/A

Character Plans:
Well, I know for a fact, that Ronald will be trying to get to know each and everyone in the port, after all! its his chance to show the world just who Ronald Knox is! So in short, he will be walking your dogs, mowing your lawns and capturing your hearts. He's probably going to try and make sure no one is gloomy, even if it means a lot of hard work on his side. And oh! of course, if someone is dying, he's going to want to be there. The core is going to be something he'll be interested in getting a close look at, seeing as how it brings people back from the dead too... that's... almost doing his job for him! he's suppose to judge who lives and dies!.

Writing Samples

First Person Sample:
[Pushing the small pin on the side of his watch, setting the cog turning and the light to flicker upwards in a beam. It acted as a sort of mirror and at first, Ronald simply fixed his hair.]

Oh! This thing s'on, huh? Let's start over... Seein' as that prolly  ain't gonna look as smooth as I wanted my first impression to go like eh. I mean first impressions can mean so much to a guy's reputation, y'know? Get it wrong and ya not only forgotten, but that'll be the only thing people'll  remember ya by! Get it right on the other hand? ...  And ya on everybody who's anybody's guest list for life, am I right!

[Pulling a wide and cheeky looking smile, double iris' sparkling with youth and hopes of dreams.]

The name's Knox, Ronald Knox. Who am I, I hear ya ask? Well, lemme explain!

[A swish of the hair later and a twinkle from his smile.]

The Death God dispatch associations finest in the collection division. Here for one night only, comin' to party in your town! ... or... well least I think this is jus' a visit, right? ... where is everybody anyway's?

Third Person Sample:
"So, as I was sayin'..." His young and cheerful voice echoed around the small annular table, its occupants fanning themselves with paper fans, open and closed. My, how he was charming, wasn't he? he had all four of the delightful females practically eating from the palm of his hands, feeding them the sweet nothings they wanted to hear, only, given the chance? .. Ronald probably would pull through on his promises of happiness, if only they would take a chance on a wild card such as him once in a while. "... And that's how comes I've gotta move 'round a lot. It comes with the territory of the job, Ma'am, though, for the right girl, I could settle down." Smiled the smooth Death God, the ladies blushing and giggling like school girls.

Leaning his arm, at full breadth over the back of the debutantes chair, moving in for the kill, a kiss to her cheek and a whisper of something romantic to her ear, when... "Oh ya gotta be jokin'?... Ugh~" The young gentleman slowly did raise form his seat at the table, the socialites each passing him a doleful expression in the advance of his absence. His watch sounded off, letting him know he was actually needed elsewhere. "Will you ladies please, excuse me? I have to be somewhere, technically I'm still on the job, was just on my break. I'll be back before you can swoon and say 'Ronald Knox, what a dream~ so don't go anywhere!" Winking, bowing and pulling his coat on over his shoulder, Ronald made his way over the boats upper deck, through the rest of the bar that was there and out onto the port side.

There was a dull fog, coming thick and fast, raising up off of the waters surface. Normally, he wouldn't care much about such a thing, having been part of the London division, in his field of work, made for this sight to be common, though, London smog was so much thicker and had a taste to it that Ronald used to frown at. Only, there was no weather reports suggesting there would be bad weather. How odd. The boat seemed silent, still even, as the mist coated its deck with a blanket of meandering frost like distraction. I say distraction because that's what Ronald was, distracted, from his thoughts and his objective. Coming to a stand still, his black leather gloves, crackled and crunched, while fingers were coiled around the cold railing bar. leaning over to look closer in inspection of the water.

That's the last thing he could remember, before waking up, some place dark, some place on land.

Unbeknown to Ronald, he was laying underneath the bleachers, just by the dugouts of the Ports Baseball Diamond. If he was to sit up a little too fast- "Ow!" Too late. The apricot topped Death God's head collided with the underside of a bleacher, knocking his glasses clean off his head. Sighing, scampering out from under the seats as he reached out for his glasses. "Man, if William were here I bet he'd have somethin' to say 'bout these..." A heavy felt sigh as Ronald held the spectacles up to his face, noticing a crack in the corner of one lens. "Was I drugged? The cheek! and she didn't even leave me her number?!" Searching his pockets frantically, expecting that he'd been drugged, dragged away and fondled by one of the many admirers he was sure he had.

But no such luck. Slipping his glasses back up the bridge of his nose, dusting some dust off of a shoulder and finally taking a look around. It was a ways away from the actual dock where he assumed he'd been taken off the boat where he and his his co-workers had only just been. It was now that he noticed the writing on the walls of the dug out. " Go ... home? No hope?....you're all gonna die here?... Hm well..." He paused, took a moment to himself and then smiled, posing with a sparkle to his teeth and eyes. "If we're all sentenced to death here, its a good job I happened to show up when I did huh. ...wait... does this count as overtime?"
