what does everyone feel about religion? From an Idealist point of view...do you feel that religion and type are similar/different/totally unrelated...?
I'm supposed to be a christian; but as of late... the more I become aware of my personality the more I find myself learning towards just spirituality! Sucks tool because I think its going to cause problems for my family. Maybe its the INFJ in me!
I think that the INFP is spiritual despite religion. I don't think you have to have a religion to be spiritual. For me personally, I've been a Christian but I'm not so sure anymore after seeing the "darker side" of the church.
i find this very interesting. Mostly i threw the question out there because i am undergoing some religious changes and i was sort of stunned because it's the last thing i expected. however, i have to say that accepting a new religion has made me feel, as a person, far more comfortable than ever before. so i thought to question if it was something that pertains to type. I haven't been able to form any conclusions at all, and considering religion is such an unknown mystery, chances are i won't see any patterns. but i'm willing to look for them anyway, to satisfy my curiousity

I think I am almost an example of someone whose profession is "religion", as I work in the Religious Studies section of a university library, where I specialise in oriental and pagan belief systems. Having said that, I would say that I am not religious myself, but I do think I am spiritual. I personally do not find organised religion helpful

i think you are right in saying that we need to agree the definition of 'religion' in this context. i would choose a dictionary definition, but i was sort of curious to see what we came up with. i think, in general, 'religion' may be one of the toughest words to define. what does the average idealist feel religion is to them?
and also, how does an idealist define 'spirituality'?
are we, as idealists, more prone to be spiritual? Do we feel most comfortable following a leader? do we sense 'god'? what do we feel about organized religion? do we generally put faith in our beliefs or do we need concrete proof?
i realize my original question at the beginning of this thread was VERY broad. if i were more organized i would love to make a poll or start a community for MBTI and religion. (would anyone here be interested in joining a community devoted to MBTI religious discussion?)
Sorry - I'm INxJ. I should have explained that I'm one of those annoying people who cannot settle on being a T or an F.
how does an idealist define 'spirituality'?
As a tentative definition, I would offer: pertaining to spirit as opposed to matter. This assumes a belief in there being more to life and the universe than the physical world and that there are "things unseen".
are we, as idealists, more prone to be spiritual?
I think so - but not necessarily in a conventional sense of following established religious practices.

In all, I believe that spirituality to be a state of mind in which the soul seeks to become bereft of physical limitations...to feel the connection that already exists between itself and life. Life being that which is all. Life can be divided into any number of categories such as deities, other humans, animals, meteorological phenomena, rivers, rocks...all that which exists contains life or else we would not be able to comprehend it. For none are outside ourselves, perception in and of itself marks a thing as a part of us
