I meant generally - the process...

Do you go about it impulsively, do you weigh pros and cons, research, ask others' opinions (whose?), do you have a system...?

A book recommended

- brainstorming
- gathering information & opinions (online, various people in real life,...)
-... (can't remember them all)

Just curious how you guys mostly make decisions.

based on body-feeling intuition, backed up by logical thought. :)

For me, if there is some major life-altering decision to be made, I will carefully consider various potential outcomes and will often converse with my trusted friends as well as my family. By having a composite view held of many vantages, the best decision can apt be made. Plus, by having others share the decision making, I can have greater support should things go awry.

For more inconsequential decisions, though, these are somewhat impulsive: they just happen... these, though, usually are not related significantly to my core life areas unless the decision is doubtless to lead to only some positive outcome (i.e., spending money on some rare text which will lead to likely new and highly specialized understanding - the decision to spend the money is secondary, for me, to being able to gain further knowledge).

I talk to friends and trusted people (and accidental strangers on the internet;) about things that matter too, gathering different points of view...

The problem with talking to friends/known people only is that you tend to move in circles, but by allowing strangers to shed light on the subject you allow your view to expand!!

Thanks for shedding some light on my own decision-making!!

I suggest that most people make most of their personal decisions based upon what they think they want. Depending on the nature of the decision they will take various approaches - deciding to buy a house requires a lot more investigation, discussion, consideration of pros and cons than does deciding what to have for lunch etc. The hesitation/procrastination can be the result of not knowing what you want, more than not knowing how to get to a decision ( ... )

I think I tend to think about the options and take forever to actually make a decision, but then I wait until the point that I'm forced into something and it's sort of just decided for me. I also go with my impulses, or try to, but I tend to become afraid to follow through on them.

I have been a procrastinator for a long time.
