Also Charmander is cool hard mode. I'd have chosen Squirtle, myself, to simplify endgame. Rival is easiest in the champion battle when he has Venusaur. Oh well!

If Pokemon was an 80s movie Charmander would be the jerk jock whereas Squirtle is the likable but hapless hero who overcomes adversity and triumphs in the end.
