I was a bit worried that the third site on our team's roster would take a long time to get to, but it turns out it's just a short hop away on the 72. Didn't have to leave the house leg early, did get some knitting done (i have been working on a replacement scarf for S, and maybe it'll be ready for the cold spell in March ( Read more... )

My crabapple tree is not exactly a fruit tree (except for the birds) but it needs pruning and I would like to know how it should be done!

We (er, i) harvested from our crabapple trees last year; they are full of pectin and make a tasty jelly. But they are tiny and fiddly.

Anyway, i'd love to come look at it with you and do some pruning.

Hooray! The crabapples on our tree are the size of cranberries. I think they are just ornamental, although birds beg to differ. There is a crabapple tree around the corner from us that has perfect tiny apples that are an inch and a half in diameter...I keep thinking that one year I will ask if I can pick them all, but first I have to get up the motivation to make crabapple jelly. (Like you did last year!) Their crabapples always end up all over the street so I'm sure they would be willing.

Are you ready to come teach my students? Our young apples and pears need their first pruning. I've just gone to one training: enough to lead them through it myself if I had to, but little enough that I'd also be happy having a pretend-expert on hand.

You now how i hate being portrayed as an expert.

We've pretty much just done older trees that need work, but i can read up.

There is a german shepherd puppy outside. You should see his eyebrows.
