I have two compost bins and alternate them. The way their little ecosystems develop and change has been fascinating. Sometimes they're mostly worms, other times they're solid woodlice. And all sorts of other creatures pop up from time to time...

I gave Herman my best shot. Maybe I should have put him in the fridge overnight, although that tends to kill yeast cultures too.

But yes, the Triops has staged an amazing comeback, no idea how it did that but it has emerged the winner and embarked on a life of solitary contentment and much nibbling at carrot peelings!
