Congratulations! Yay!

As for herbs, try silicate gel bits, they soak up all that yummy extra moisture when you water and then slowly release it back into the soil as the flowers need it. Just note, a lot of herbs like it a little dry and some are fond of shade so it may have not all been your perceived neglect. Good luck when you try again... you are trying again right? MUA!
